Pokémon TCG Pocket Reveals New Set Space-Time Smackdown Alongside Gen 4 Legendaries & A Release Date
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has announced Space-Time Smackdown, the game's next expansion. While Mythical Island was technically the first expansion for the popular trading card game app, players have been eagerly anticipating the launch of a new "full set" that will add more cards in line with Genetic Apex, the card set included at the game's launch. Now, we have new details about the next set, as well as its launch date and what cards and Pokémon will appear.
Space-Time Expansion will feature Gen 4 Pokémon, including Pokémon ex cards of Dialga, Palkia, and Parichisu, as well as popular trainers from the Sinnoh region such as Cynthia. The set will also introduce Pokémon Tools cards, a new kind of Trainer card for the game.Space-Time Smackdown will be released on Tuesday, January 29, and available everywhere by January 30. Trading was also confirmed to be added to the game on January 28. A trailer for the new set, as revealed officially on Pokémon TCGP, can be seen below:
What We Know About Space-Time Smackdown, Pokémon TCG Pocket's Next Expansion
New Sets Will Add New Pokémon Ex Cards, Pokémon Tool Cards
Details about the set, such as how many cards will appear, are still unknown. However, we know that the set will be released via two separate booster packs, one featuring Dialga and the other featuring Palkia. The set will also include Pokémon Tool cards, a new kind of Trainer card that are attached to specific Pokémon to enhance their HP, attack strength, or to enhance other effects. As with Genetic Apex and Mythical Island, the new set will also contain alternate art cards, including cards featuring Lucario and Cynthia.
As for trading, we know that the game will introduce two new resources that are required to activate trades. Trading will be limited to friends only, with players using trade tokens to actually initiate a trade. Trade tokens assumably will recharge over time, but players can also use trade hourglasses to speed up the process. It's worth noting that not every Pokémon TCG Pocket card can be initially traded. Only certain 1-4 diamond cards and 1-star cards from Genetic Apex and Mythical Island will be available to trade. The lineup will be expanded in future updates.
Our Take: Expansion Will Surely Shake Up The Pokémon TCG Pocket Metagame
We Can't Wait To Start Opening New Packs
One of the fantastic parts about Pokémon TCG Pocket is that the game has been pretty balanced so far, with several "meta" decks instead of one or two dominant deck archetypes. What will be interesting is how this new card set will shake up the Pokémon TCG Pocket metagame. Not only will trainer cards and the new Tool cards surely impact how decks are built, many of the new Pokémon ex cards will also spice things up. I can't wait to start cracking open packs next week when Space-Time Smackdown comes out.
