After it premiered at Sundance in 2024, the film has already won a NewFest 2024 Grand Jury Award and a Torino Film Festival win for Gallo's lead performance. O'Brien spoke to ScreenRantearlier this year about Ponyboi finally getting a release date, saying in part that he was taking the experience in. The thriller has also enjoyed overall positive reviews, with praise for Gallo and O'Brien's portrayals.
