Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 Release Date & New Characters Revealed
The release date for Power Book III: Raising Kanan has been revealed, also pulling back the curtain on some of the new faces joining the Starz series. Premiering in July 2021, with Sascha Penn as the creator, the crime drama is a prequel to the original Power series and the second spinoff in the Power franchise. The story unfolds in the 1990s, centering on the early years of Kanan Stark and his origins. The character first appeared on Power, with franchise executive producer Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson playing the role. In the prequel, he's portrayed by Mekai Curtis.
Deadlineconfirms that Power Book III: Raising Kanan season 4 will premiere Friday, March 7 on Starz. It will also be available to stream on all of Starz's on-demand platforms. Along with the confirmation of a release date, new photos were released of the upcoming episodes. They include a first look at new cast members Chris Redd and Grammy Award-winning rapper Pardison Fontaine. Redd, an SNL alum, plays the trustworthy ally and secret keeper Early Tyler. Fontaine, meanwhile, plays the volatile rapper B-Rilla.
What Raising Kanan Season 4 Means For The Power Spinoff
Unique Is Back
As seen in the photo above, Unique (played by Joey Bada$$) is alive. The character makes a shocking and violent return, with plans to destroy the central Thomas family. That family includes Raq Thomas (Patina Miller), who is Kanan's mother. Beyond that, other uncertainties are looming. That's especially true since Raising Kanan season 4 will also follow up on the showdown between Kanan and his mother, which resulted in chaos.
The cast also includes Tony Danza as Stefano Marchetti, Wendell Pierce as Snaps, Erika Woods as Pop, London Brown as Marvin Thomas, Malcolm Mays as Lou-Lou Thomas, and Hailey Kilgore as Jukebox.
Although the official synopsis teases that the “slates have seemingly been wiped clean for Kanan, Raq, and the rest of the Thomas family,” the reality isn't so simple. The Thomas family, it has been teased, will have to accept who they are. This is not only a moral and introspective question. If anything, it may mean the difference between life and death.
Our Take On Raising Kanan's Return
It Continues To Raise The Stakes
There are plenty of great characters in the Power universe. However, in its fourth installment, Power Book III: Raising Kananpromises to put the focus on the Thomas family. In the end, that all goes back to informing Kanan and the person that long-time viewers would come to know in the original Power. That journey has arguably become as urgent as the destination; the stories told in this show can enhance certain themes and storylines in its predecessor. With season 4 making things very personal, this could become the most vital entry yet.
