Usher (The Boys), Chelsea Muirhead (Warrior), Daniela Nieves (Vampire Academy), Jessy Yates (Law & Order: SVU), and Néstor Carbonell (Lost) can also be seen in the trailer alongside Willa Fitzgerald's Simm and Woodell's Philips, each portraying medical staff with their own personal and professional baggage.

10 Medical Drama Tropes That Would Never Happen In Real Life

Although medical drama TV shows are known for being overly dramatic, it's astounding that many of the genre's tropes are completely unrealistic.

Netflix is making a bold entry into the world of medical dramas with Pulse, proving itself against newer network television and streaming darlings like NBC's St. Denis Medical, Max's The Pitt, and ABC's long-running Grey's Anatomy, which is currently on season 21. Backed by Emmy-winning Lost producer Carlton Cuse and Hawaii Five-O writer Zoe Robyn, Pulse sets itself apart with its disaster-driven premise, weaving the frenzied urgency of emergency room cases with the chaos of a storm on a path towards destruction.

A Hurricane, A Messy Romance, And Life-Or-Death Stakes

Pulse is hitting every high-intensity medical drama beat, but with the added chaos of a disaster thriller. Simms and Phillip's workplace romance could be an interesting twist as the two are forced to work together among their weary peers. Netflix is clearly aiming to prove itself in the medical drama space, and with Carlton Cuse and Zoe Robyn at the helm, Pulse might just have the sharp writing and emotional whiplash to pull it off—hopefully, the series manages to maintain its momentum after the storm finally passes.
