As Maddie's living friends think of ways to get Janet back to Split River High, Nicole goes on a solo mission to visit a person who went to school with her back in the 1950s. Having found him in a picture with Janet in a yearbook, Nicole visits Eugene Bergstrom at Red Pine Village, the nursing home where he is staying.

In their meeting, Eugene confirms he was close friends with Janet and still laments her death to this day.
