See Cyclops' Greatest Costumes of All Time in the Ultimate Tribute to Scott Summers

The X-Men leader Cyclops is one of the most recognizable superheroes in the entire world and has a long legacy as a Marvel icon and a leader of mutantkind. Over the years the incredible artist Russell Dauterman has illustrated many gorgeous Costume Variant Covers, collecting beloved characters' most iconic costumes. Finally, Cyclops is getting the Dauterman treatment in an epic variant cover for X-Men #16.

Cyclops was the second-ever member of Xavier's X-Men and has transformed into a top-tier tactician, respected leader, and radical revolutionary, all marked by a vast collection of unique costumes through his many eras.

Russell Dauterman has truly become a master of the Costumes Variant Cover series, paying homage to other iconic heroes like Spider-Man, Storm, Rogue, and Thor. Dauterman clearly does a lot of research into each featured character's eras, highlighting the most well-known costumes while still including lesser-known or short-lived looks as well. It can be hard to identify where each costume in Dauterman's covers come from, but thankfully the hosts of the Power of X-Men podcast have created a post that correctly identifies where each of Cyclops' featured costumes come from:

Scott Summers is a controversial figure, both in the Marvel Universe and for fans, with many fans lambasting him for his treatment of his ex-wife Madelyne Pryor, while many in-universe view him as a dangerous, rogue revolutionary. Regardless of people's mixed feelings towards Cyclops, it is undeniable that his look is incredibly recognizable, and that he has had some supremely badass costumes in the past. Dauterman, of course, highlighted Scott's three most popular looks on center stage: his classic skullcap costume, his 90s Jim Lee look, and his iconic casual outfit from Morrison's New X-Men run. Other main highlights include Cyclops from Age of Apocalypse, his red Revolution-era costume, and his fierce look as a member of the villainous "Phoenix Five."
