Seriously, How Long Will It Take For Rose To Become An Official Night Agent?
Warning: Major spoilers for The Night Agent season 2 below!Despite being invaluable to Night Action on multiple occasions, why hasn't Rose become an official Night Agentyet? Rose (Luciane Buchanan) has been through a lot during the first two seasons of Netflix's thriller series, having watched her aunt and uncle being murdered, dodging multiple assassination attempts, and helping stop a political conspiracy. The ending of The Night Agent season 2 sees Rose return to civilian life after another traumatizing run-in with Night Action - and being told by partner/occasional lover Peter (Gabriel Basso) that she needs to stay away from him as he's bound for prison.
While Rose will almost certainly return for the Night Agent season 3, it's odd the show has painted itself into another corner with her. Season 1 ended basically the same way, with the new series having to then spend time weaving her back into the narrative. At least the show has an organic way to bring Rose back, since the AdVerse tracker she created could be a key plot device next time. Still, given all she did for Night Action during season 2 (which sits at 90% on Rotten Tomatoes), it feels like her talents are fiercely undervalued.
Rose Has Proven Herself To Be Just As Valuable As Night Agents
Rose was arguably the MVP of Night Action during season 2
The Night Agent season 2's cast introduced Amanda Warren as Peter's new boss, Catherine. She's initially skeptical of his abilities and trustworthiness - for reasons that are made clear in later episodes - but she comes to trust him. For whatever reason, Catherine keeps trying to get rid of Rose, who constantly proves her worth. She manages to track down Peter when nobody else can, Rose's tracker is a huge help with the mission and she does an amazing job going undercover at the gala event.
Catherine does eventually come to recognize Rose's contributions, but it's hard to see how she and Peter could have succeeded without her help...
Peter is still considered a rookie despite having undergone training; in contrast, Rose has had no training at all. She is constantly shown to be resourceful and a quick thinker, from figuring out a way to escape the mobile lab to helping Peter take down Markus (Michael Malarkey) during the finale. Catherine does eventually come to recognize Rose's contributions, but in hindsight, it's hard to see how she and Peter could have succeeded without her help.
Would Catherine Ever Consider Rose To Become An Actual Night Agent?
Rose joining Night Action is the next logical step
Peter's future was looking grim during The Night Agent season 2's finale. He had sold out to "intelligence broker" Monroe (Louis Herthum) in order to save Rose's life and was looking at prison time for being a traitor. Instead, Catherine bailed him out of trouble so he can go undercover with Monroe, and find out his ties to the new POTUS. Where Rose will fit into that story is unclear, but the show should stop playing around with the obvious and make Rose an official Night Agent.
Of course, she would need the training, but Rose has already proven herself a natural. She and Peter make for a natural team too, and after two seasons of finding herself drawn into Night Action missions and helping save people, regular civilian life might not hold the same appeal. Plus, it would be tedious if every season of The Night Agent ended with Rose and Peter splitting off again, only to be reunited once more. Having them both as active agents and balancing the mission and romance would be a fresh dynamic to work with.
