Severance's Season 2 Premiere Hints At A Dark Twist For Mark's Outie After Season 1's Ending
It's strange that Mark's outie is not seen at all in the first episode of Severanceseason 2. The story of Severance follows co-workers Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan, who have all undergone the "severance" procedure, which separates their work memories from their personal memories. Throughout Severance season 1, Mark's innie and outie both start to realize that Lumon Industries was not what it claims to be. This eventually leads to Mark's innie discovering that his outie's wife, who was presumed to be dead, is actually alive at the end of Severance season 1.
The cast of Severance season 2 includes Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, Patricia Arquette, and Christopher Walken. Severance wastes no time bringing Mark's innie back into the office. However, every time he leaves the office at the end of the day, the episode just jumps to the next work day. Severance season 1 always showed what Mark's outie was doing between work days. Therefore, Mark's outie not being included at all in the Severance season 2 premiere hints at a dark twist for the character.
Could Lumon Have "Killed" Mark's Outie Like They Did With Gemma In Severance Season 2?
Mark's Outie Is Not Seen In Severance Season 2, Episode 1
At the end of Severance season 1, Mark's innie successfully gets a glimpse at the outside world and discovers that his outie's wife is actually Ms. Casey, the Wellness Director on the severed floor of Lumon Industries. However, Mark's outie previously claimed that his wife, whose real name is Gemma, died after crashing her car into a tree. The reveal that Ms. Casey is actually Gemma suggests that Lumon faked the death of Mark's outie's wife. However, it is currently unknown why they faked her death and gave her a position on the severed floor.
Instead of switching to Mark's outie, the screen essentially cuts to black before starting a new day with Mark's innie.
When Mark's innie enters the elevator at the end of the day in the first episode of Severance season 2, he shuts down in a very odd way. Instead of switching to Mark's outie, the screen essentially cuts to black before starting a new day with Mark's innie. This suggests that Lumon could have done something with Mark's outie, just like they potentially previously faked Gemma's death. However, it is worth mentioning that Mark's outie does appear in the trailer for Severance season 2, so the show will likely reveal what has happened to him eventually.
Why Mark's Outie Would Have Been So Eager To Return To Work At Lumon
Milchick Seems To Be Lying To Mark In Severance Season 2, Episode 1
Hopefully more questions are answered when Mark's outie is finally shown in Severance season 2. When Mark's innie returns to work in the season 2 premiere, Milchick, who is the new manager of the severed floor, reveals that his outie was eager to return to work. After the events of Severance season 1, this doesn't sound that believable. Therefore, Severance season 2 needs to reveal why Mark's outie decided to return to work, and if he had a choice in the matter.
Furthermore, Lumon chose to bring Mark's innie back to work before any of the others, and Milchick even stressed that he was the only one who wanted to return. This claim also doesn't seem to be true, especially since Helly's outie is seemingly loyal to Lumon Industries. Therefore, in addition to revealing what happened to Mark's outie, Severance season 2 also needs to reveal why Lumon decided to bring him back to work before the others.
