Severance Season 2 Episode 6 Adds Fuel To A Wild Theory About Ricken Hale & His Season 1 Friends
Even though Ricken did not appear in Severanceseason 2, episode 6, there were still hints that suggest one of the most popular theories about him and his friends may be true. From the very first episode of Severance, it has been clear that Ricken and his friends are extremely weird people. While the show often plays off Ricken's comments as comedic relief, it has always seemed like there's something else going on, which is why he is one of the most interesting characters in Severance.
In the first season of Severance, I found it hilarious when the innies were mesmerized by Ricken's self-help book, titled The You You Are. Even though Ricken is a seemingly successful author in Severance, the writing in The You You Are is laughably bad and couldn't possibly be taken seriously by anyone. Well, that is, except for the innies who have never read any other books in their lives. Therefore, it is interesting that Ricken's friends also love his writing. This, along with a new clue in Severance season 2, episode 6, suggests that Ricken's friends may actually be severed.
Ricken's Friends From Severance Season 1 Are Secretly Involved In Lumon's Severance Program – Theory Explained
Ricken's Friends May All Be Severed In Severance
While Ricken's friends haven't been seen in Severance season 2 yet, they were featured in a few prominent scenes in the show's first season. They are featured at a dinner party (where there was no food) in the show's very first episode and, most notably, they are present at Ricken's book reading that Mark's innie attends during the Overtime Contingency Protocol in the season 1 finale. Based on their strange behavior during these two episodes, fans of Severance have theorized that Ricken's friends are actually severed.

Why Helena Eagan Being Severed Is A Secret In Severance
Mark's Outie doesn't seem to have any knowledge that Helena Eagan is severed in Severance season 2, which is for a few important reasons.
Since Ricken's friends and Mark's innie and his coworkers, who we know to be severed, both adore Ricken and his writing, this theory makes sense. In many ways, Ricken's friends act very childish and not at all self-aware. Some variations of this theory suggest that Ricken's friends escaped the severed floor, just like Petey did in the show's first season. However, it has also been suggested that Ricken chooses to surround himself with severed people because he knows they will worship him. It's almost as if Ricken has formed his very own cult of severed people to boost his ego.
The Hole In Mark's Head In Severance Season 2 Episode 6 Tracks With A Weird Rebeck Comment
Rebeck Complained About Headaches In Severance Season 1
During the aforementioned book reading at the end of Severance season 1, Mark shares a book with Rebeck, one of Ricken's friends. It is immediately clear that Rebeck is quite strange, and she even makes a comment that seems to support the theory that her and Ricken's other friends are severed. During the season 1 finale, Rebeck tells Mark that she gets headaches a lot because birds like to peck at the back of her head.
Devon mentioned Rebeck's strange chewing at the end of season 1, causing some fans to theorize that she was previously a goat.
During Severance season 2, episode 6, while Mark is undergoing the reintegration procedure, Reghabi drills a hole in the back of his head to access his severance chip. Seeing the hole in the back of Mark's head allows for an easy connection to be made back to Rebeck's comment at the end of season 1. Perhaps birds are pecking at the back of her head because she too has a hole there. It should also be noted that Devon mentioned Rebeck's strange chewing at the end of season 1, causing some fans to theorize that she was previously a goat.
Ricken Writing His Book For Lumon's Severed Employees Was Already Suspicious In Severance Season 2
Ricken Is Working With Lumon In Severance Season 2
Whether Rebeck is actually severed, whether she actually used to be a goat, or whether something else entirely is going on with her, it's clear that there is a major mystery surrounding her in Severance. In fact, I would be shocked if a major twist about Ricken and his friends wasn't revealed at some point in Severance. In addition to their weird behavior, Ricken has also begun working with Lumon in Severance season 2.

What Did Reghabi Do To Mark’s Chip In Severance Season 2 Episode 6?
Severance season 2, episode 6 ends with a big development regarding Mark’s Reintegration, with Reghabi trying an apparently dangerous new process.
After seeing how severed people admire his writing, Lumon has asked Ricken to write a new version of his book specifically for their severed employees. While his wife, Devon, is extremely critical of Lumon, Ricken seems to have no reservations about working for the company. This suggests that Ricken could actually be a supporter of the severance program. Hopefully more will be revealed about Ricken and his friends before the end of Severance season 2.
