Severance Star Explains Season 2 Opening Scene & What It Means For Mark's Story
Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Severance season 2, episode 1!Severance star Adam Scott has explained season 2's opening scene, and what it means for Mark's story as the Apple TV+ show makes its long-awaited return. Severance season 2 began with Mark's innie arriving back on the severed floor of Lumon, rushing out of the elevator as he begins traversing the hallways. While mirroring his intro in season 1, when he walked through the halls to the Macrodata Refinement wing, this time, he goes to the Wellness Center in search of Ms. Casey (Dichen Lachman). However, he finds the room has been refurbished, and the Center no longer existing.
Speaking with TVLineon their series iLUMONations: A Severance Aftershow, Scott explained how Mark's story in Severance season 2 will be informed by his hunt for Ms. Casey. Having learned she's actually his outie's supposedly deceased wife, he's now on a mission to find and save her, even if he doesn't know where she is. This may include enlisting help from Dylan (Zach Cherry), Irving (John Turturro), and Helly (Britt Lower) as the season continues. Check out what Scott had to say below:
Early on we were having a conversation and Ben was throwing questions out there [like], ‘What is the first thing Mark would do when faced with this brand new explosive information?’ [And we] thought he would just run and try to find Ms. Casey and tell her to find out if she knows anything. Maybe he doesn’t even know exactly what he would do, but his gut is he just needs to find her.
He has to figure out what and how he can do anything from down [in] MDR. Does his outie know this information? If not, how does he get the information to him? Can he find Ms. Casey? And once he does, what does he do with her?
If there’s any justice in the world, he can get her out of here, but who knows how to do that? And I think that his gut need is to have his team back to have Helly and Dylan and Irv back because these are the people he loves and trusts more than anyone else.
What Scott's Statement Means For Mark & Ms. Casey In Severance Season 2
Will He Be Able To Save Her?
The characters in Severanceseason 2 are facing a new environment at Lumon, with Mr. Milchick (Tramell Tillman) now in charge five months after the events of season 1. Their supervisor is claiming their actions have led to reforms in the show's titular program, presenting a newspaper that sees their outies seemingly together during a celebratory event. However, it's clear nothing's as it seems, with Ms. Casey still missing despite innie Mark shouting to his sister, Devon (Jen Tullock), that she's still alive.
The last time Ms. Casey was seen, she was sent to the Testing Floor, entering an elevator at the end of a dark hallway with a red arrow atop it. This is the same location outie Irving was painting incessantly in his apartment, meaning his knowledge could be extremely beneficial in finding out what happened to Ms. Casey. An image of her was also briefly seen flashing on Mark's computer at the end of Severance season 2's premiere, somehow connected to a "Cold Harbor" file he's working on. However, it's unclear what this means as he continues searching for her.
Our Take On Mark's Search For Ms. Casey As Severance Season 2 Continues
Mark's Search Might Reveal What's On The Testing Floor
Since Irving knows about the Testing Floor thanks to his outie, it's possible he'll be able to help Mark once they discover where Ms. Casey was taken. However, it's unclear what they'd find if they went down the elevator, potentially revealing new secrets about Lumon that lead to even deeper questions. For now, it appears Severance is going to see the main character's innie simply working with his co-workers, though staging a plot to find his wife seems like it's right around the corner.
