Tourism drops significantly in the cold season, spurring residents to create new reasons to travel to town

Despite the presence of Silverton Mountain ski area, tourism in Silverton drops steeply in the winter. Residents are trying to change that trend and diversify their travel economy, with mixed results so far. Planned events like a skijoring race and a dogsledding competition were shuttered for legal and weather reasons this winter, but there’s a music series planned for March and some local restaurants are committed to staying open.
