Sims 1 Re-Release Teased By EA With Mysterious New Images
EA may be teasing a re-release or remaster of The Sims 1. First released in 2000, The Sims was the game that started it all, taking the popular Sim franchise and zooming it in for a greater focus on highly customizable individual lives. It's since spawned three more mainline iterations on The Sims formula, countless spinoffs like the MySims series, and seemingly infinite expansion, stuff, and content packs.
And EA appears to be eyeing a return tothe original Sims in some way, shape, or form - or at least fans seem to think so, based on a series of images and videos shared on its social media pages honoring The Sims 1's legacy in recent days. First, the official SimsFacebook and X (formerly Twitter) pages changed their banner photos to a retro-style Sim, and their profile photos to a Sims 1 plumbob. Next, the official X page posted a video debuting a new "Sims 25" logo, and depicting a mouse clicking a "Time Travel" option in the classic pie menu.

What EA's Cryptic Posts Could Mean
All this redecorating has an obvious purpose: in 2025, The Sims series will celebrate its 25th anniversary, hence the Sims 25 name. Many players have stuck with the series as long as it's been around, and a classic Sims revival would bring back a lot of nostalgia. In the replies, one player, @WhatAGreatDai, couldn't believe how quickly the time had flown by since the original Sims came out.
However, some players believe EA is signaling something big and concrete to celebrate The Sims' 25th birthday, like a re-release of the classic games that laid the series' foundation. And there's evidence to support that: in a post on Facebook, the official Simsaccount posted a roadmap for the month of nostalgia it has planned ahead.
Between January 27 and 31, it'll be celebrating an event it calls "Nostalgia Now," and beginning on February 4, (the anniversary of the first game) there'll be an in-game event for The Sims 4. But February 25 is marked with a wide-eyed emoji, suggesting something big is coming that day - but we have no idea what. It could very well be the anticipated re-release or remaster, or something else entirely.

The classic Sims games could use a re-release for a number of reasons, but outdated graphics and use of Comic Sans aside, it can be incredibly difficult to install The Sims 1 or 2 on a modern PC. They require tons of older patches and prerequisites that are no longer included with Windows, and must be tracked down online and installed manually, in a time-consuming, easy-to-mess-up process. Lots of fans would pay for the privilege of an easy, one-and-done download of The Sims, so a re-release is highly anticipated.
And with The Sims 5 officially canceled, a resurgence of the original games would give fans something to look forward to at an otherwise bleak moment for the series. There's never been a better time for a re-release of The Sims 1, so let's hope the rumors are true.
