Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Continues Momentum By Passing New Domestic Box Office Milestone
Sonic the Hedgehog 3has passed yet another domestic box office milestone. Released on December 20, the threequel has done well in the past four weeks. Sonic 3 has received strong reviews overall, even becoming the highest-rated film in the franchise according to Rotten Tomatoes. The franchise film features a leading cast including Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, Jim Carrey, and Keanu Reeves. After the events of this film, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is already confirmed to be in the works.
Per BoxOfficeMojo, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has now crossed an important domestic box office milestone. The movie is now in the top 10 highest-grossing 2024 releases at the domestic box office, taking the no. 9 slot. It passed Kung Fu Panda 4 and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in order to get this spot. The film still trails behind the no. 8 spot, Twisters, by a fair margin, as Sonic 3 has grossed $204.8 million domestically compared to Twisters' $267 million.

Sonic 3 Set Another Important Franchise Record
This is not the only box office feat that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has achieved recently. Last week, the film also became the highest-grossing movie of the Sonic franchise in terms of domestic box office numbers. The next highest franchise film is Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which now trails Sonic 3 by almost $14 million. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has yet to beat out its predecessor at the worldwide box office, however, as the second film grossed $405.4 million worldwide and the 2024 movie is only at $385.1 million worldwide.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has also yet to break into the top 10 highest-grossing 2024 releases at the worldwide box office, but it is in the top 15. On a worldwide scale, Sonic 3 actually comes in right above Twisters, but falls below movies such as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. To break into the global top 10, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will still need to make over $90 million worldwide, which is a hefty but still possible sum depending on the extent of its international rollout.
