Spartacus: House Of Ashur Trailer Reveals First Look At Returning Star As Release Window & Synopsis Revealed
Spartacus: House of Ashur gets its first trailer, teasing the return of the hit Starz series. Airing from 2010 to 2013, Spartacus was created by Steven S. DeKnight, chronicling the origins of the titular gladiator, who led a rebellion against the Romans. The upcoming spinoff series also hails from DeKnight, with the Spartacus: House of Ashur story set to follow Nick Tarabay's Ashur, imagining what would have happened had the character not died on Mount Vesuvius in the original series.
Starz now releases the first teaser trailer for Spartacus: House of Ashur, revealing more about what's to come and confirming that the show will premiere in fall 2025. The trailer provides a first look at several new cast members, including Graham Mctavish (House of the Dragon), who plays Korris, Jordi Webber, who plays Tarchon, and Tenika Davis, who plays Achillia. Check out the trailer below:
Accompanying the trailer is a more detailed description of what the story will actually be about, teasing an interesting "what if" scenario regarding Tarabay's character:
House of Ashur will be a history-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit. The series poses the question: what if Ashur (Nick Tarabay), hadn’t died on Mount Vesuvius at the end of Spartacus: Vengeance? And what if he had been gifted the gladiator school once owned by Batiatus in return for aiding the Romans in killing Spartacus and putting an end to the slave rebellion?
What The Spartacus: House Of Ashur Trailer Means For The Show
Some Classic Spartacus Elements Are Returning
With the Spartacus spinoff show now confirmed to not arrive until the back half of the year, there's still quite a while to wait, but the trailer does tease what audiences are in for when the series arrives. In addition to providing a look at some new and familiar faces, the House of Ashur trailer makes clear that this is very much the same Spartacus that audiences remember.
The original Starz show was never a darling among critics, but it did entertain audiences with its abundance of bloody violence and graphic sex and nudity. As a trailer intended for all audiences, the latest look at House of Ashur is obviously limited in what it can show, but it doesn't seem like, tonally, the series will not be toning anything down. Achillia's fight with the male gladiator, for example, is filled with the same sense of style found in the original show, while another shot shows an apparent sex scene.
Spartacus star Lucy Lawless will be reprising her role as Lucretia in a guest star capacity for the spinoff, though she is not featured in the trailer.
Our Take On The Spartacus: House Of Ashur Trailer
The Starz Series Is Off To A Strong Start
The latest trailer keeps much of House of Ashur shrouded in mystery, but what's been shown off so far is promising. The series is also set to arrive in the wake of Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2, which brought back gladiator action to the big screen. It's possible that Scott's sequel will lead to a boost in popularity for the upcoming Starz series, with audience interest in the period having been piqued by the major blockbuster.
DeKnight's return for House of Ashur is also a positive sign. DeKnight was crucial to bringing all four previous seasons to life, as well as shows like Netflix's Daredevil and Angel, and his involvement suggests the spinoff won't forget what made audiences like the original. Many questions remain about Spartacus: House of Ashur, but audiences now have a better taste of what's to come.
