Spider-Noir TV Show: Cast, Story Details & Everything We Know
Spider-Noir, the latest Spider-Verse spinoff that will see Nicolas Cage reprise his Marvel Universe role in live-action, is deep into production, leading to the release of many details concerning the upcoming series. After Kraven the Hunter's poor box-office performance, Sony is in dire need of a win. Following this, it appears that the studio is pausing their villains-centric universe to focus on ensuring the success of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse as well as the streaming series Spider-Noir.
Spider-Man is well-poised for spinoffs. While not every film has worked, Sony's villains universe got some things right, with the trilogy of Venom films being especially lauded. With that success and the critical acclaim for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel, there is reason to be hopeful for future Spider-Man spinoffs. With a distinct and interesting visual style, and pulling from unusual comic books as source material, Spider-Noir has incredible potential to be a huge, beloved hit for Sony and Prime Video both.
Spider-Noir Latest News
Information On The Series Is Limited But It Is Deep Into Production
After a series of delays linked with the Los Angeles wildfires, Spider-Noir recently went back into production in January 2025. Little information has been provided concerning the release of the series, with a potential release on Prime Video coming in 2025 or perhaps not until 2026. With the delays caused by the wildfires, there is some speculation that filming could wind up running longer than expected.
Following the casting of its biggest star, Spider-Noir went into production in August 2024. The shoot was scheduled to last from August 2024 all the way until February 2025. This was shortly followed by the announcement of a slew of Spider-Noir cast members by Variety, including Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, and Joe Massingill in undisclosed roles.
In May of 2024, after writing delays due to the WGA strike, some concrete movement took place with MGM+, Prime Video, and Sony revealing not only that they had canceled their long-gestating series Silk: Spider Society, but that they would also be moving forward with Noir, a live-action series that would star Nicolas Cage as a live-action Spider-Man Noir. The title was changed in July to Spider-Noir.
While the character was introduced in a Noir line of comics from Marvel in 2009, Spider-Man Noir rose to prominence after his role in the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where Nicolas Cage voiced him. From there, rumors began to swirl concerning a Spider-Man Noir adaptation as a series, which was ultimately confirmed in 2023. The series was announced alongside several other Spider-Man spinoffs.
Spider-Noir Production Status
The Series Seems To Be Nearly Finished Filming
Spider-Noir is currently filming and does not yet have a release date. The series was confirmed in 2024 and was originally set to finish filming by February 2025. However, the Los Angeles wildfires have caused some filming delays in recent weeks. While the series has resumed its production, it is unclear if the filming schedule will be adjusted or if the production will extend further than February 2025.
No release window has been given for the series, but it is speculated to release in 2025 or 2026. With Sony's villain universe ended at least for the time being, the studio has shifted to focus heavily on Spider-Noir and the next Tom Holland-starring MCU sequel. Getting Spider-Noir out before Spider-Man 4 is likely a priority, and the series will most likely be released near the end of 2025.
Spider-Noir Cast
A Slew of Talented Performers Have Joined The Series
The cast of Spider-Noirwill be headlined by Nicolas Cage reprising the role that he voiced in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.Cage has been a major player in Hollywood for years, becoming well-known for his roles in films like Con Air and The Rock. The alter-ego of his Spider-Man has not been officially revealed, but sources have indicated that he will be playing a character different from Peter Parker.
Lamorne Morris will play Robbie Robertson in the upcoming series. Bill Nunn played the character in the Tobey Maguire films, who is generally depicted as a journalist or editor at The Daily Bugle. Morris, known for his roles in New Girl and the recent Saturday Night, is the only other cast member whose role has been confirmed by name for the upcoming series, suggesting that it may be a significant one.
Brendan Gleeson is one of the most successful Irish actors of our time and has been confirmed to be a part of Spider-Noir. The actor was said by Varietyto play a major role in the series, although few concrete details of Gleeson's character have been confirmed other than that he will play a New York mob boss who has been described as a philosopher. It seems likely that Gleeson could play the main villain of the show.
Li Jun Li will play a singer at a nightclub in Spider-Noir. The Shanghai-born actor has been featured in films such as Damian Chazelle's Babylon, and played a large role in Netflix's Sex/Life. The size of her role in the upcoming series has not yet been disclosed.

Jack Huston from Boardwalk Empire is set to play a role as a bodyguard, with Karen Rodriguez from Apple TV+'s Acapulco rounding out the main cast. Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, and Andrew Caldwell have all been confirmed to join the cast in recurring roles, but no character details have yet been released.
Spider-Noir Story Details
Story Details For The Upcoming Series Are Scarce
Few official details of Spider-Noir's plot have been revealed. The series' official logline has revealed that the series will follow an “aging and down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.” Considering the cast that has been revealed, especially Robbie Robertson’s large role in the show, it seems that details concerning corruption and the news will be examined in the new series.
With mob ties and a dark setting, the series is set to provide a unique look at the world of Spider-Man. While the series follows Cage's performance as the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it does not appear that this series is about the same iteration of that character. Still, especially with its shared casting of Nicolas Cage, there may be some indirect links to the animated film. Its canonicity to the Venom franchise and other Sony Spider-Verse live-action projects remains to be seen.
The villains of the Spider-Noir series are also not known, although Brendan Gleeson is confirmed to play a mob boss. Rumors have circled concerning the upcoming series, suggesting that Silvermane and Wraith will be the villains of the series. Vulture was also rumored following some set photos from the project. These details are generally not yet available, but any additional story or character details for Spider-Noir will be shared soon.
