Spy x Family Already Revealed How Loid Will Beat the Series' Final Boss, But Fans Missed It
Spy x Family just recently shocked the anime community by confirming a major theory about its main villain, Donovan Desmond. The series strongly hints at Donovan being able to read other people’s minds, a skill that makes him several times more dangerous than he already was.
Against such a powerful ability, there is little the world’s greatest spy, Loid Forger, can do to defend himself. And yet, one small detail in chapter #103 might prove that Yor has inadvertently given her husband the key to defeating Donovan: relaxing and not thinking about his mission. What is more, the manga might have proven that Tatsuya Endo, the author, included it with this specific purpose.
Yor Might Have Saved Operation Strix Without Knowing It
Loid Will Have to Relearn How To Relax
To not think for a while. To not worry for a while...
- Yor Briar.
Ever since he was first introduced in chapter #1 of the Spy x Family manga series, Agent Twilight has always taken his missions extremely seriously. No matter how mundane his objective might appear to be, Anya’s father does his best to ensure that nothing could go wrong. While this has often helped him achieve success even under the harshest of conditions, it has also put a massive amount of mental strain on him. A perfect example of the suffering Loid goes through every day appears in chapter #103.
As Anya and Bond play during the Forger Family’s weekend excursion, Loid sits down next to Yor, who notices he is rather tense. Twilight immediately replies by saying that he is not used to relaxing, implying that his brain is always active while on missions. To help him alleviate his stress, his wife tells him to give it a try and stop thinking about everything for a moment, helping Loid wind down for the first time in years. Besides being an extremely wholesome moment that proves how much Yor cares for him, this interaction might save Twilight in the future.
Sooner rather than later, Anya’s father will have to confront his target once again, as Operation Strix’s success depends on this. By that point, Loid might have already come to terms with Donovan having the ability to read minds. As such, the only way in which he could protect himself and the secrets of his mission would be to think about nothing at all. Any thought that crosses his mind can become a weapon used against him. Without knowing it, Yor might have saved Loid and her entire family’s lives.
The Context of Chapter #103 Points to This Being Intentional
The Entry Oddly Focuses on Project Apple
The claim that Yor’s innocent advice to Loid is a subtle foreshadowing of how the hero will defeat the villain in the future might seem far-fetched at first. Still, chapter #103 of the Spy x Family manga gives various hints to this being a major possibility. Despite being an uneventful chapter that mostly shows the Forgers enjoying an afternoon together, the entry had an oddly placed cameo from an animal involved with one of the franchise’s recurring mysteries, Project Apple. Belle is a seal who had her mental abilities augmented by scientists, and she has not made any other appearances.
The fact that Endo chose entry #103 to introduce her and to never depict her again means that the events of that day were in part related to the experiments. Although it is still not confirmed, fans widely accept the theory that Donovan is the man behind these cruel investigations. The author, who is known for hiding significant details about the story in unexpected places, might have wanted to hint to fans that chapter #103 will play a major role in the future. The memory of Yor telling him to not think about anything might save Loid’s life soon.
Demetrius Could Be Hiding Another Clue
His Blank Mind Might Be a Defense Mechanism
Demetrius Desmond, Donovan’s older son, is perhaps one of the oddest characters in Spy x Family. Even though the series insists that he is a brilliant student, when Anya tried to read his mind in chapter #93, she could not find anything there. At first, fans believed that he, like his father, was hiding a secret telepathic ability, explaining why Anya could not read his mind. Yet, after the events of chapter #110, his behavior might indicate that Yor was indeed unknowingly warning Loid. Before revealing her husband’s secret, Melinda told Loid that Demetrius agreed with her.
After having his privacy invaded constantly by his father, Demetrius developed an aversion to thinking, only doing it when it was necessary. What fans understood as eccentric behavior that hid a powerful ability could end up being a defense mechanism developed after years of mental abuse. Endo could have been hinting at relaxing and leaving one’s mind completely blank being the only way to defeat Donovan far earlier than fans realize.
The Spy x Family manga might seem like a comedic and episodic series at first glance, but fans who believe this have misunderstood the true nature of the story. Endo has been hiding interesting details in almost all chapters for fans who have an affinity for finding secrets. Hinting at how Loid will save himself from Donovan’s abilities might just be his most recent example.
