Spy x Family Drops Its Most Shocking Cliffhanger to Date, Tying the Series to... Aliens?!
The overall premise of Spy x Family is practically one big plot twist. Each of the main cast members is harboring a secret that no other character is aware of, and the series dangles the possibility of exposing those secrets and shaking the story to its core. It never has, and likely will not until the time comes for Spy x Family to end, as it is this structure that has kept the series entertaining for over 100 chapters. None of the stakes written into the series are too high for the Forger family to recover from.
That is, until the most recent chapter #109 was released, introducing Spy x Family's biggest twist to date. Bringing Melinda Desmond critically close to the fearless leading spy psychiatrist in previous chapters, it appeared that Loid's mission was reaching a tipping point. And just as the newest chapter places the former first lady in the position to share crucial information about her husband, she reveals just about the only thing fans couldn't have expected: he's an alien.
Spy x Family Introduces a Plot Twist Absolutely No One Saw Coming
The Main Target of the Series Has an Extremely Unexpected True Identity
Spy x Family has taken its audience down various twists and turns throughout its 109 chapters, but never any quite like the newest. The mysterious nature of the Desmind family has inspired countless theories from fans regarding what exactly the deal is with Donovan. His appearance and behavior are undoubtedly strange, but never strange enough to make anyone believe him to be an alien. However, Melinda Desmond seems to believe that her husband is not of the Earth.
What stands out most in the tension-filled conversation between Loid and Mrs. Desmond, however, comes just before the extraterrestrial reveal, when she tells the series' main spy that she was once a patient at that exact hospital once before. Not only does this lead to questions about why Loid, a legendary spy, wouldn't already have that information, but it also makes her claims about her husband unreliable. If Donovan is truly revealed to be an alien in coming chapters, then Spy x Family is shaping up to be a much different series than anyone thought.
Several Theories About Donovan Desmond Still Hold Up
Theories About the Target of Operation Strix are Still Plausible
Melinda having once been a patient in a psychiatric ward does not determine the validity of her claims. However, when combined with her less than stellar work in the supernatural field as a fortune-teller in the previous chapter, it's only fair for the audience to be somewhat hesitant to accept that Donovan is an alien. He is strange, though the leading theory in the community which paints him as once being part of the same testing that gave Anya her powers remains much more believable.
There is a greater likelihood that Melinda's supernatural interests gave way to a much more unpredictable theory regarding Donovan's backstory. Or he could truly be an alien and Spy x Family is gearing up to take readers on the most unexpected arc in manga history. Answers to the recent shocking twist, and how it might affect Operation Strix, will likely come in upcoming chapters, and fans are not going to want to miss the explanation for Melinda's alien accusation.
