Squid Game star Lee Seo-hwan, who plays Jung-bae, talked about the tragic death at the end of season 2. The hit Netflix show's sophomore return follows Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who has been obsessed with ending the games since the season 1 finale. Seo-hwan was among the Squid Game season 2 cast who returned, alongside Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-joon. While Seo-hwan had a minor role in the freshman season, he is one of the main characters in season 2. Unfortunately, Jung-bae is killed by The Front Man (Byung-hun) at the end of Squid Game season 2.

Things don't work out, and so I end up getting shot. And even after being shot, I continue to look at Gi-hun until my last breath as he is in my sight. But even in that moment, I'm not blaming him for my death. Instead, I want to apologize for not finishing my role.

Jung-bae Was Gi-hun's Best Friend In Squid Game
Years after the events of Squid Game season 1, the show's sophomore season sees Gi-hun reenter the games to help the new batch of players, including Jung-bae. Jung-bae only appeared in two episodes of season 1, but it was well-established that he and Gi-hun were best friends. Gi-hun even asked Jung-bae for money so that he didn't have to play the games in season 1, which makes them playing together in Squid Game season 2 all the more tragic.
Gi-hun and Jung-bae are close allies throughout season 2 and are fully committed to the rebellion. Gi-hun and Jung-bae almost make it to the manager's office at the end of Squid Game season 2, but Jung-bae is killed right before the season cuts to black. His death ensures that season 2 ends with Gi-hun at his most hopeless point. Not only did Gi-hun's rebellion fail in the end, but he also lost his closest friend and will have to live with that guilt.
