Star Wars, Admit It: Bo-Katan Is Overdue for Her Own Solo Series
Since her debut in 2012's Clone Wars animated series, Bo-Katan Kryze has been a breakout Star Wars character – which makes it surprising that she hasn't received her own comic book from Marvel, especially following her live-action appearance in The Mandalorian. The character's popularity, as well as her prominence in franchise lore, make it seem inevitable that she will appear in the comics, but many fans are questioning why she hasn't yet.
Bo-Katan's in-universe history covers nearly 20-years, from The Clone Wars, to Rebels, to The Mandalorian, and coincides with the most dramatic points in the franchise's canon. Yet much of her journey, and her role in major galactic events, remains ill-defined, compared to what fans would expect of the character.
Her background between Rebels and The Mandalorian is only told through bits and pieces of exposition, but never shown in any of the Star Wars shows, novels, movies, or comics; it is past time Bo-Katan received her chance to shine, and the comics provide the perfect platform for her stories.

The Fan-Favorite Mandalorian Deserves Her Own Series
When viewers first meet Bo-Katan in The Clone Wars, she is a part of a Mandalorian extremist group and sister to the Duchess and leader of Mandalore, Satine Kryze. The Clone Wars only shows her rebellious youth that’s eventually tainted by the murder of her sister at the hands of Darth Maul. After that, there is a fourteen-year gap before Bo-Katan reappears in Star Wars: Rebels as a full-fledged adult, devoted solely to Mandalore in a way her late sister would have wanted. This point in her life, along with many others, should absolutely be elaborated on by Marvel Comics.
During the events of Rebels, Bo-Katan becomes the wielder of the Darksaber, a Mandalorian weapon of great power and significance. The person who has rightfully wins the Darksaber in battle becomes the leader of Mandalore. In the series, the previous owner of the Darksaber, Sabine Wren, denounces her claim to the weapon and passes it to Bo-Katan, who Sabine knows had devoted her whole life to the people of Mandalore. Another six years pass before Bo-Katan is seen again, this time in live action, in The Mandalorian.

During the six years between Rebels and The Mandalorian, Bo-Katan lost the Darksaber to Moff Gideon, a highly ranked official in the Empire, after the Empire tried to seize control of Mandalore. Though the Mandalorians, led by Bo-Katan, fought valiantly, Bo-Katan conceded the weapon in an attempt to save her remaining people. However, the Empire proceeded with the Purge of Mandalore, leaving the planet seemingly uninhabitable. Without a home or a unified people behind her, Bo-Katan’s life became about tracking down Moff Gideon to retrieve what he took.
A comic series focusing on the battle between the Empire and Mandalore alone would not only fill in gaps, but be a riveting tale on par with some of the most defining and iconic battles in Star Wars history.
Though Bo-Katan eventually regains ownership of the Darksaber in The Mandalorian and unites the fragmented groups of Mandalorians to take back their planet, there is still so much of the story that is untold. Audiences only know about the Purge of Mandalore also known as the "Night of a Thousand Tears," through stories Bo-Katan and her fellow Mandalorians relate. A comic series focusing on the battle between the Empire and Mandalore alone would not only fill in gaps, but be a riveting tale on par with some of the most defining and iconic battles in Star Wars history.

Fans Want More Details On The Hero's Life
The fourteen-year gap between The Clone Wars and Rebels would also be the perfect opportunity for not just one comic series, but multiple different ones telling different stories of what exactly she was doing. Her actions and movements are relatively unknown during this time period, which leaves a blank and broad canvas on which comic writers can paint gripping tales of adventure and delve into Bo-Katan’s growing pains. Her sister’s death had a profound impact on her in The Clone Wars, but what that impact looked like as the years went on is something fans want to learn about.
Fourteen years is a long stretch of time for Star Wars to fill in. For example, Bo-Katan’s relationship with her parents has never really been explored at all, not even in The Clone Wars. It is unknown whether they were even alive or not during Satine’s reign as Duchess. If Bo-Katan’s parents were still alive at the end of the war, what that relationship was like, especially after Satine’s death, would make for dramatic story fodder. If her parents predeceased both Bo-Katan and Satine, then how she made her way in the galaxy could be an even more intense story.
There is also an opportunity to explore Bo-Katan’s ties to other Mandalorian houses and clans. As Bo-Katan and Sabine Wren work side by side in Rebels, perhaps the two (who are of similar ages) have crossed paths in the past. Not only would that be a fun way to add to Sabine’s backstory as well as Bo-Katan’s, but it would provide deeper meaning behind their relationship as shown in Rebels.
