Post-hike tick checks are especially important this year, as Kane County Health Department and Forest Preserve District officials have issued a warning about an increase in the area’s tick population this spring. Tick species are migrating into new areas, with lone star ticks turning up in northern Illinois along with the usual American dog and deer ticks.
