Netflix finally released the trailer for Battle Camp season 1, and the show looks even better than I imagined. Battle Camp is a brand-new competition show that will air exclusively on Netflix later this month. While living in cabins like they're at summer camp, the contestants of Battle Camp are competing for $250,000.
A few weeks ago, Netflix announced that Battle Camp will feature competitors from other Netflix reality shows, giving audiences the chance to see more of their favorite cast members. Some of the cast members have appeared on competition shows before, possibly giving them an advantage over the cast members who came from dating shows or docuseries. The cast includes people from shows like Love Is Blind, The Circle, Squid Game: The Challenge, Too Hot To Handle, Selling The OC, The Ultimatum: Queer Love, The Mole, Cheer, and Perfect Match.

The first thing that shocked me while watching the Battle Camp season 1 trailer was the mention of "camp crushes" during a clip of two people kissing under the covers. While it's not clear from the brief clip who was locking lips or if anyone else will develop feelings during the show, the possibility of a new reality TV power couple is exciting. Netflix is already known for their dating shows, so I can't wait to find out if anyone finds love while also vying for a quarter million dollars.
The Battle Camp Challenges Are Intense

The Battle Camp format seems to be a mix of other fan-favorite competition shows. It shares a similar setting to CBS's Buddy Games, but the competitions seem more akin to MTV's The Challenge. While some challenges in the trailer are reminiscent of summer camp, like blobbing, kayaking, and tug-of-war, others will test the contestant's biggest fears.

According to the Battle Camp season 1 trailer, the new competition series will require some contestants to participate in a dreaded eating punishment. The Circle's Quori-Tyler Bullock is seen eating a spider, although the exact details of the punishment or challenge remain a mystery. The show will also feature height challenges and a myriad of other punishments. I'm excited to see such high-stakes challenges that will test the cast members physically and mentally.

Unlike other competition shows, where eliminations are based on either skill or a vote, Battle Camp seems to incorporate voting and good old-fashioned luck of the draw (or rather spin). According to the Battle Camp season 1 trailer, votes will happen in secret by writing a fellow cast member's name down and putting the paper in a box, similar to CBS's wildly popular Survivor.
Those votes will help determine whose names will end up on the spinning wheel.
Based on the trailer, I think Battle Campwill be an exciting, innovative new reality competition show. I can't wait to see cast members I've already grown to love from other shows. The fish-out-of-water element will be extra fun, and I think the show will be filled with fun and drama.
Battle Camp season 1 will be available to stream on Netflix on April 23, 2025.
