The MCU Just Confirmed A Key NYC Location That Could Lead To Introducing Another Marvel Netflix Character

Marvel might have just confirmed the return of another Defenders Saga hero thanks to the appearance of a key New York City location in the first MCU trailer for Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox has already returned as Matt Murdock's Daredevil, but the first trailer for Daredevil: Born Again brings him back to his grounded roots. After Netflix's Defenders Saga was confirmed to be canon to the MCU in early 2024, there has been speculation about who might return alongside the Man Without Fear, and Born Again's trailer might have provided some clearer insight.

Daredevil: Born Again's trailer gave viewers a better look at several returning Defenders Saga characters, including Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, Benjamin Poindexter, Frank Castle, Karen Page, Foggy Nelson and more. The fact that Born Again is continuing the story of the original Daredevil series after its creative overhaul is very exciting, but there are some characters who are still noticeably absent. Marvel might have just teased the return of another Defenders Saga hero, however, which means Daredevil might not be fighting Kingpin alone.

Daredevil: Born Again Trailer Confirms A Key NYC Location From The Marvel Netflix Shows

A Major Luke Cage Location Appears In Daredevil: Born Again's Trailer

In the jam-packed first official trailer for Daredevil: Born Again, you'd be forgiven for missing this brilliant tease towards a major location featured in the Defenders Saga's Luke Cage series. At the 0:27 mark, Wilson Fisk, seemingly the new Mayor of New York, speaks to the city's residents on the screens in Times Square to celebrate the New Year. To the left, an advertisement for Rogers! The Musical can be seen, harking back to previous MCU projects, but, above that, there is also an ad for Harlem's Paradise.

Harlem's Paradise didn't previously appear in Netflix's Daredevil series, but was a key location in the adventures of Mike Colter's Luke Cage. Since Charlie Cox was confirmed to be returning to the MCU as Daredevil, there has been speculation that the other Defenders Saga heroes, Luke Cage, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones and Finn Jones' Danny Rand, could join him. The appearance of an ad for Harlem's Paradise in Daredevil: Born Again's trailer provides the MCU's first hint that this could actually come to fruition in the Phase 5 series.

The Significance Of Harlem's Paradise Explained

Harlem's Paradise Became Luke Cage's Base Of Operations In Season 2

Originally founded by Buggy Stokes, the grandfather of Mariah Dillard and Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes, and Quincy McIver, Harlem's Paradise was a nightclub in Harlem that became the base for the Stokes Crime Family and a front to launder its dirty money. By Luke Cage's premiere, Harlem's Paradise, which regularly housed funk, jazz, and rock musical acts, had passed to Cottonmouth, and became the site of his murder at the hands of his cousin, Mariah. It was briefly taken over by Bushmaster and the Stylers, but was left to Luke Cage in Mariah's will following her death.

The final shot of Luke Cage season 2 saw Mike Colter's titular hero set up shop in Harlem's Paradise, teasing his devolution into a crime boss and powerful villain in the series' unmade future seasons. It's been over six years since Luke Cage season 2's dramatic finale, so it's unclear exactly what has happened to Luke Cage and Harlem's Paradise in the years since. According to its first trailer, Daredevil: Born Again might be about to fill in these gaps, and could even bring Mike Colter's Luke Cage back to the MCU.

Is Daredevil: Born Again Teasing Luke Cage's Return To The MCU?

While there has been no official confirmation of Luke Cage's return to the MCU, the fact that Harlem's Paradise appears in an ad in Daredevil: Born Again's trailer certainly hints to Power Man's reappearance. In August 2024, Mike Colter revealed to ComicBook that he'd "love to explore" coming back as Luke Cage, noting that he's "not holding anything back" when he says that he doesn't know if Cage is returning. Of course, previous MCU actors have deceived audiences regarding their much-anticipated returns, so Mike Colter could be pulling an Andrew Garfield.

I would love to explore it, if they found some story, some way, somewhere, to take it. And I'm happy that Charlie Cox and those are getting it rebooted, but I don't have any [idea if Luke Cage is getting rebooted]. I'm not holding anything back.

Back in May 2024, however, Colter did suggest that he may be too busy to return as Luke Cage given his key role in the hit Paramount+ series, Evil (via ComicBook). Even so, this could create the opportunity for Marvel Studios to recast Luke Cage in the MCU, which could still lead to the iconic Marvel hero appearing in Daredevil: Born Again. Whatever the case, it certainly seems as though Marvel is setting up a reprisal for Netflix's full Defenders team, which could set up many more adventures for the MCU's street-level heroes.
