The PlayStation Network Service Has Been Restored After Nearly 24 Hours, Confirmed By Sony

After almost 24 hours of being offline, the PlayStation Network is finally back up and running. For the past 24 hours, PlayStation fans have been unable to log into their account, make purchases from the PlayStation store, play online games, or do anything that requires a network connection. Fans were outraged, not only due to the worldwide outage, but due to the lack of communication from Sony about the issue at hand.

Now, finally, Sony has announced that the PlayStation Network is fully functional once again, stating via X, "PSN has been restored. You should be able to access online features without any problems now." While there is no explanation as to why the outage occurred in the first place, PlayStation users can use their consoles with all of its features once again.

Gamers Were Not Happy With The Silence From Sony

While outages are mostly unavoidable, gamers are more upset over the lack of communication from Sony during the downtime. User Val Merdeaux on X states, "Unacceptable lack of communication. We pay for your services. Many people make plans to play together on the weekend. You have allowed a disruption in services we pay for and plan for, without communication with us about what is happening." While offline games were still available for play, the PlayStation Status website claimed that there were a plethora of issues that arose during this outage.

Account management, including the ability to sign in or create new accounts, was also down for the time being. Game streaming, PlayStation Video, the PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct had also been affected. This left PlayStation users with almost nothing to do during the outage, minus playing offline titles, of course. The first reports of issues and error messages began Friday night around 6 pm EST, making this one of the largest PlayStation Network outages in history.

Our Take: The PlayStation Network Outage Could Have Been Worse

Gamers Can Now Get Back To Business

Back in 2011, PSN was down for almost a month, 24 days total to be exact, after PlayStation was hacked. PlayStation 3 users felt the same pain as those who use PSN today, wondering when their favorite games would become available for play once again. At that time, over 77 million accounts were compromised, leaving their personal information at risk, which made users lose faith in PlayStation at that time.

Though this outage was extremely inconvenient, at least it didn't last for 24 days this time around, andthe PlayStation Network is back up and running for all to enjoy.
