The Residence Trailer: Shonda Rhimes Netflix Series Is A Murder Mystery Set In The White House
Netflix has released a trailer for The Residence, a Shonda Rhimes TV show that's a murder mystery set within the White House, with plenty of suspects. Rhimes is no stranger to collaborating with Netflix, with her production company, Shondaland, currently producing Bridgerton season 4, as they have for previous seasons of the period drama as well. In 2018, it was announced that Rhimes' company would be involved in producing The Residence, a series for the streaming platform inspired by Kate Andersen Brower's book of the same name.
Now, Netflix has released a new trailer for The Residence, a series starring Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, a member of the Metropolitan Police Department investigating a murder in the White House. The trailer shows Aduba's character interviewing various suspects of the murder, including staff, guests, and even the President himself. The trailer also features plenty of notable actors, including Giancarlo Esposito, Randall Park, and Jason Lee. Action is also teased as Cordelia's investigation causes tensions to run high. Everyone's A Suspect As The Investigation Begins
The trailer promises an eccentric mystery as Cordelia begins interviewing a wide array of characters, all of whom could have had motive for the murder. The many characters emphasize how the series will be an ensemble murder mystery, the setup harkening back to the cast of Glass Onion, who proved such stories with memorable characters make for popular entries on Netflix. Despite pulling clear inspiration from previous work in the genre, the show also maintains a comedic energy that is clearly carried by its lead actor.
While details about what will happen in the show are slim, chances are there will be plenty of unique, interesting characters to make the story stand out. It's also a good sign for the popularity of quirky mysteries on Netflix in 2025, with the upcoming Wake Up Dead Manalso promising to add to the streamer's catalog later this year.
