The Rings Of Power's Jamie Campbell Bower Role Can Make Up For His Disappointing Stint In Another Hit Fantasy Franchise

Amazon Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is welcoming Jamie Campbell Bower to its cast, which may be the actor's best fantasy move in a while. Bower is a British actor, singer, and model who has starred in Stranger Things and The Mortal Instruments, among other big productions. He was recently announced as a member of the cast of The Rings of Power season 3. Importantly, this could start to make up for a very disappointing role in one of the world's biggest fantasy franchises.

The Rings of Power has explored Sauron's identity, and it could dive into even more famous Tolkien characters in season 3. Original character Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) was revealed as Sauron in the season 1 finale, while the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) was uncovered as Gandalf in the season 2 finale. With season 3 officially confirmed, the show veers toward its full five-season run with increasing optimism and the ability to fold in more characters. Jamie Campbell Bower is perfectly positioned to raise the show's profile, while it will likely give him a far better role than he had in Harry Potter.

The Harry Potter Movies Wasted Jamie Campbell Bower, But The Rings Of Power Can Make Up For It

Campbell Bower Had A Minor Role In Harry Potter

Jamie Campbell Bower played Gellert Grindelwald in the Harry Potter movies, which wasted his talent, but The Rings of Power can make up for it. Grindelwald has been played by a few different actors, including Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp, and Mads Mikkelsen in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movies. These actors gave the character real life in their substantial roles. However, Bower's significant expertise was not utilized properly in the Harry Potter franchise, with his role dishearteningly short. His Lord of the Rings role will likely be larger and more important.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power should take care not to repeat some of the mistakes it made with Sauron and Celebrimbor's arc.

Although Bower failed to make a splash in the biggest fantasy franchise he has participated in, he can look to Lord of the Rings for a real part. Lord of the Rings is an even bigger fantasy franchise than Harry Potter, so this is really Bower's time to shine. Bower's fans were let down to find out that he only starred as Grindelwald in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies for a matter of seconds, without lines, in photos and flashbacks. Meanwhile, he will probably have a speaking role in Rings of Power.

Why Jamie Campbell Bower's Time As Gellert Grindelwald Was So Disappointing

Campbell Bower's Grindelwald Had So Much Potential

Bower was the first actor to play Grindelwald, so he made an impact, but it was sad to see this not exploited more. Bower's model good looks capture an Elvish beauty that would be perfect for The Rings of Power and evoke some of the dangerous appeal of the character from Dumbledore's perspective. Bower's presence radiated off the screenin all his minor appearances in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Unfortunately, other actors with lines got more credit for the role.

Exploring the dynamic between Grindelwald and Dumbledore as young men was a promising avenue, and while the movies were limited in terms of how much time they could spend of flashbacks, they still could have done more. While Bower's role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 practically has to be slowed down to be glimpsed, his star power isn't likely to be taken for granted by the Amazon show. The show features smaller names than Harry Potter, so Bower is a relatively famous addition to the cast, and his role is sure to be less fleeting than his Harry Potter one.

Who Jamie Campbell Bower Could Be Playing In The Rings Of Power Season 3

Campbell Bower's Rings Of Power Role Isn't Yet Confirmed

According to Deadline, Bower will play a "handsome high-born knight," which doesn't narrow it down too much. The working code name for the character is reported as Arlen. There will be a time skip between The Rings of Power season 2 and season 3, launching the season 3 opener into the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron. There are a few new characters that this could entail. Elendil (Lloyd Owen) was on his way west to find his son, Anárion, at the end of season 2. Númenóreans like them should join the war, so perhaps Bower will play Anárion.

Anárion hasn't yet featured in the show, and nor has an actor for him been announced, leaving Bower open as an option. Meanwhile, at San Diego Comic-Con, Rings of Power showrunners J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay confirmed that Glorfindel and Celeborn should both join the show. The show explores The Lord of the Rings' Second Age, which Celeborn and Glorfindel were both a part of. Both of these Elves are also high-born knights, and Bower has an Elvish look to him, so it's likely that he will assume one of these roles.

Celeborn was played by Marton Csokas in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies.

However, like many of the additions to the cast of season 2, Bower may end up playing one of The Rings of Power's best original characters. While Halbrand and the Stranger started off as original personas and were later revealed as known ones, some of the show's best characters are its own inventions. Played by Joseph Mawle and Sam Hazeldine, Adar was central to season 2. Bower would make an amazing Celeborn or Glorfindel in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, but it is just as possible he will play an unknown knight.
