The Traitors US Season 3 Is A Failure (The Show Isn't Receiving The Same Buzz & Excitement Season 2 Had)

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the first three episodes of The Traitors US season 3!

The Traitors season 3, which surprised fans by becoming Peacock’s highest-rated reality show in its previous season, is going to have a hard time living up to the hype. The Traitors is finally here after a year-long break, featuring host Alan Cumming as he leads the game of strategy filled with funny moments between reality stars from different sides of the spectrum. Since season 2 was so historic, the highly-anticipated The Traitors season 3 has a lot to prove.

While season 2 introduced a fresh style of gameplay for the US version, setting it apart from other international adaptations, the stakes are even higher this time around. Featuring an all-star cast of TV personalities and reality stars, season 3 was eagerly awaited by fans hoping to dive back into the world of manipulation and intrigue. However, it seems the new season might not meet the high expectationsset by its predecessors.

The Cast Was More Interesting Last Season

These Players Are All Too Similar

The first season of The Traitors featured a mix of reality stars and ordinary civilians, but for season 2, the show decided to take a different approach. The US version moved away from its UK counterpart by opting for an entire reality TV star cast, setting itself apart from the original. While The Traitors UK keeps things grounded with a group of everyday people, the US version eventually leaned fully into a celebrity-focused cast, which was a success for the second season.

However, The Traitors season 3 cast is a lot less exciting, already leaving some viewers wanting more just a few episodes in. Certain players, like Vanderpump Rules star Tom Sandoval, were already hated coming into the game, but he still doesn't make a good villain. Season 2 had a much more diverse cast, featuring out-of-the-box celebrities like boxer Deontay Wilder and former UK politician John Bercow, which made the show a lot more fascinating.

The Traitors Last Season Played A Better Game

The Gameplay Was A Much Higher Caliber

In The Traitors season 2, many of the players were willing to take risks the celebrities from this season aren't willing to make. This cast is timid, which was highlighted during the first episode when nobody was willing to bring Boston Rob Mariano into the game by eliminating another player. This was the opportunity to let competitors know how serious they were, but nobody wanted to put a target on their back, which was disappointing as a viewer.

Throughout The Traitors season 2, it was clear there was a major divide between the two types of reality TV stars in the game. For season 3, it's becoming obvious how many cast members don't have any type of competition experience, proving the show could benefit from more experienced players. Last season featured more players from reality competition shows, and that seems like a much better tactic than filling the house with more reserved reality stars when it comes to playing a game.

There's Still Hope The Traitors US Season 3 Can Do Better Later In The Season

It's Still Very Early

While the first few episodes of The Traitors were somewhat of a letdown, things began to move at a much quicker pace after Boston Rob, Wes Bergmann, and Derrick Levasseur entered the game. Though much of the cast started as reality stars who didn't have much gameplay experience, their arrival changed things. Bringing in players who have experience on shows like Survivor and The Challenge should make for an engaging competition.

The Traitorsseason 3 is slowly picking up now that real game players have been added to the mix. Though it's entertaining to watch stars from The Real Housewives be so out of their element, it also doesn't make for the best gameplay, which has been lacking this season. As the season goes on, the contestants will hopefully learn how to play the game better and make the show more exciting moving forward.

The Traitors US streams new episodes every Thursday on Peacock.
