“The Way He Survived Is Very Interesting”: Ralph Fiennes Teases His 28 Years Later Character As Bloodied New Image Is Revealed

Ralph Fiennes has teased his 28 Years Later character and his storyline in the zombie movie as a bloodied new image of the survivor is revealed. The story of 28 Years Laterfollows a group of survivors on an island long after the Rage Virus has decimated the UK. It follows one survivor, Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), and others leaving on a mission, that results in them running into various dangers. The film is the first in a planned trilogy of sequel in the 28 Days Later franchise, and will introduce various characters, including one portrayed by Fiennes.

Now, Empirehas revealed a bloodied new image of Fiennes' Dr. Kelson, an important survivor in 28 Years Later. While not much is known about the doctor yet, Fiennes teases an "interesting" way he's been able to survive for so long, cryptically teasing what audiences will think of him. He also said that, while he's introduced in the first movie, his real time to shine will be in its sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, in 2026. Check out the new image, and what Fiennes had to say, below:

He’s a survivor, and the way he survived is very interesting. He’s quite out-there in his views on the world. I think audiences will assume something about him and then see where it goes." "[He'll be] a much bigger part of the next one.

What Fiennes' Statement Means For His Dr. Kelson In 28 Years Later

He's A Character With Plenty Of Mystery About Him

There's not much information about how Dr. Kelson will interact with the rest of the characters, other than he's a seasoned survivor they meet on their travels. However, he can be seen multiple times in the 28 Years Later trailer around various bone structures, indicating he'll have an important role to play when it comes to this location. As for Fiennes' role in general, it seems he'll at least appear in the first two movies of the trilogy, with his fate afterward currently unclear.

However, the image of him covered in blood isn't something new for his character, as it appears the survivors are going to be meeting him while he's drenched in red. This could have something to do with how he's been able to survive, perhaps using a method similar to The Walking Dead to disguise his scent from the infected. This may also connect to 28 Years Later's Bone Temple location, with him being there perhaps another indicator of how he was able to live for so many years.

Although the extent of Dr. Kelson's story hasn't been revealed yet, the image and Fiennes' statement means he'll be a key figure in the movies going forward. Whatever his motivations happen to be, it sounds like the audience will be able to pick up on them early, potentially implying he's not who he seems at the outset. Since 28 Years Later's story is still maintaining some mystery ahead of release, the extent of his influences probably won't be unveiled until it arrives in theaters.
