There’s One Massive Monster That Would Fit Perfectly Into Monster Hunter Wilds’ New Biome

With Monster Hunter Wilds releasing in just over a month, speculation over its potential Monster inclusions is at an all-time high. While more than a handful of familiar and entirely new monsters are already confirmed for the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds, only a portion of the full catalog has been revealed. While there are hundreds of options for Capcom to choose from across the widely beloved Monster Hunter franchise, one Elder Dragon would fit perfectly into Monster Hunter Wilds.

Given that Elder Dragons are an exciting part of each Monster Hunter game's later base-game hunts, they're not likely to be teased until much closer to Wilds' release. While Teostra, Kushala Daora, and Velkhana have had plenty of spotlights in the past few entries in the Monster Hunter series,Wilds has an excellent opportunity to bring back some of the most interesting yet forgotten monsters from the franchise. Even if Wilds focuses on introducing brand-new Elder Dragons rather than reusing old ones, it's hard not to hope for some fan favorites to make their glorious return in Monster Hunter Wilds' impressive visual fidelity.

Gogmazios Would Be A Perfect Fit For Monster Hunter Wilds’ Oilwell Basin

Feeding This Elder Dragon's Endless Hunger

Out of all the Elder Dragons left behind in previous entries, Gogmazios has by far one of the pack's most unique and horrifying appearances. Being one of the largest Elder Dragons in Monster Hunter history, the dark scales seeping in moving tar that covers its six-limbed body give Gogmazios an incredibly intimidating appearance, not to mention the appearance of an entire Dragonator spear lodged in its back.

Given Gogmazios' memorable features and climactic boss encounter, many fans like X user TweetingGaruga have already expressed their interest in this giant monster's return online and potential disappointment if it doesn't end up in Wilds.

With the Oilwell Basin's overabundance of flammable oil, tar, and other flammable substances, Gogmazios would fit seamlessly into this new environment, potentially acting as a raid boss during later stages of Monster Hunter Wilds' story or future DLC by threatening the inhabitants of the area.

Despite its massive size and oozing oil, Gogmazios is still capable of flight using its tattered wings. These allow it to take to the skies and move surprisingly fast for a creature of its stature to rain down explosive oil and even a powerful laser on anything in its path. One of the most surprising aspects of Gogmazios' design is the small frowny face that appears under its chin, providing a strikingly goofy contrast to its terrifying appearance that makes it stand out even more than it normally would.

Unearthing The Origins Of This Terrifying Elder Dragon

Finally Providing Answers To Long-Standing Lore

The dark, slick Oilwell Basin cave in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Making its first appearance in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for the Nintendo 3DS in 2104, Gogmazios has remained a fairly mysterious creature across the years, mostly due to its lack of additional in-game appearances. One of the few things the Guild knows about Gogmazios based on its frequent armory raids is that it feeds off sulfur and gunpowder, which are likely abundant resources in the depths of the Oilwell Basin or its ancient forges.

Given that the environment Gogmazios came from is entirely unknown to the Hunting Guild, the Oilwell Basin could prove to be the perfect long-forgotten home for the terrifying beast.

Due to the massive size of Gogmazios, players would need to make use of emplacements much like its original appearance in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate,as Gogmazios ismore of an interactive boss battle, such as Zorah Magdaros from Monster Hunter World, rather than a typical Elder Dragon hunt. Players will need to strategize between using canons, Dragonators, ballistas, and other hunting emplacements alongside their own gear to take down a monster of this scale, although the increased map sizes of Monster Hunter Wildscould make this kind of encounter more feasible than ever.

Gogmazios Isn’t The Only Monster That Would Be A Great Addition To Wilds

Plenty Of Potential For Fan Favorite Returns

While Gogmazios would be a fantastic addition to Monster Hunter Wilds, it's far from the only monster that deserves a shining comeback. The dynamic weather mechanics can also pair greatly with some classic monster themes, allowing them to create a more immersive fighting experience than ever before, showcased perfectly by Rey Dau's stormy battles. Given that Elder Dragons are well known for their power over the elements, monsters like Kushala Daora could easily transform a sunny day into a raging typhoon at will with these new mechanics.

The expansive desert could be the perfect opportunity to include another multi-stage hunt.

Even though Monster Hunter Wild's various environments allow for even more options, the expansive desert could be the perfect opportunity to include another multi-stage hunt featuring the Elder Dragon Jhen Mohran. Like Gogmazios, players will need to bind the massive monster to slow it down enough to fight back with their own weapons or mine valuable resources attached to its back. The increased 100-player lobbies could also lend themselves greatly to these raid-type bosses, with Monster Hunter World's Kulve Taroth being a prime example of what's possible for large-scale multi-party hunts.

While there's no confirmation if this quest type will return in Monster Hunter Wilds, they were one of the more memorable gameplay options in the franchise, aided by unique co-op mechanics like Kulve Taroth offering higher tier rewards based on the success of other hunting parties.
