"There Were Magic Moments On Set": Superman Star Nicholas Hoult Teases Upcoming DC Film & Reveals Why He's Excited For His Son To See It
Recently, Nicholas Holt discussed both why he is ready to share Superman with his son and how he played a part in his father's preparation to play the DC Universe supervillain, Lex Luthor. A versatile actor, his credits span comedies like About a Boy to action flicks like Mad Max: Fury Road to horror films like Nosferatu, and everything in between. Along with Hoult, Superman will star David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, Isabella Merced, and Nathan Fillion, among others.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at CinemaCon, the actor spoke about how his son, Joaquin, shaved his head to achieve Lex's iconic bald look. Hoult, who has a second child with an unrevealed gender or name, also opened up about the importance of Superman being a movie his children can enjoy. He explained: "One of the most exciting things for me is [that] this is a movie I’m thrilled he’s going to be able to watch."
Hoult continued by praising Superman's director, James Gunn. He stated: "There were magic moments on set. Seeing the imagery that James [Gunn] was inspired by from the comics and seeing those come to life on the screen. And I can’t wait to share those with him."
What Nicholas Hoult's Superman Comments Mean
Hoult's comments paint a positive picture not just of Gunn but of Superman itself. This isn't the first time Hoult has praised the director's vision for the superhero flick. Previously, he stated that "what was so exciting to be on set—him and all his team around him—they really gel, and there’s an excitement to creating with them, and that was something that was just infectious to be around."

Why Lex Luthor Hates Superman In James Gunn's Reboot Addressed By Nicholas Hoult & Honestly, He Makes A Good Point
Exclusive: Nicholas Hoult reveals what leads the DCU's Lex Luthor to develop a deep hatred for the Man of Steel in James Gunn's Superman.
He then added:"As a fan I’m just so excited to see what they’ve made, because I think it could be really special." The actor's recent and older comments combined imply Superman will be, as expected, a heavily comic-inspired film but with a broader focus that can also draw in young viewers.
Our Take On Nicholas Hoult's Superman Comments
Hoult's excitement for Superman both as an actor and a fan is palpable. In the same interview, he discussed seeing the Lex toy for the first time, again reminding him of his children. He explained:
I can’t wait to buy that and gift it to them. ‘Cause then when I play, I can do the voice. I can remember all the lines. It can be fun re-enacting.
Though many of DC's films have taken a darker approach, Superman is returning to the character's roots with a lighter tone. While this will not please all fans, Hoult's enthusiasm to share the film with his family recalls an important truth: superheroes can be for everyone, not just the grown-ups. Every superhero fan starts somewhere, and it is—to quote Hoult—"magical" thatSupermanwill allow the father and son to share in that connection, regardless of how the film turns out.
