Whilst Serie A clubs did not spend heavily in the January transfer window, three Italian sides made the top five of the list of biggest earners from player sales.
Things were fairly modest in the January transfer market in Serie A, with the total spending sitting just below €109m and over €126m generated in sales. 67 players joined topflight clubs last month whilst 123 left for various sides across Italy and Europe.
A few interesting deals did occur over the last month, like Napoli’s purchase of Cyril Ngonge, Roma’s acquisition of Tommaso Baldanzi and Bologna’s signing of Santiago Castro, but things were fairly quiet on the arrivals front.
Gianluca Di Marzio details how Hellas Verona were the highest earners in the January transfer window, earning over €44.7m with six sales, the most lucrative of which was Ngonge’s €18m move to Napoli.
Behind the Gialloblu are Gent with €29m in sales and Benfica with €26m. Closing out the top five are two more Serie A sides, Genoa with €25m and Napoli with €24m, which are thanks to the sales of Radu Dragusin to Tottenham and Eljif Elmas to RB Leipzig respectively.
