MANILA – Top seed Tyronne Grey Caro and second pick Yuan Andrei Torrente beat their rivals Saturday to reach the boys' 12-under division of the Dr. Pablo Olivarez Sr. National Juniors Tennis Championships at Olivarez Sports Center in Parañaque.
Caro blanked Arden Caleb Sumanga, 6-0, 6-0, to advance against No. 8 Maximus Alexander Calingasan, who prevailed over Leonardo Manio III, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-7.
Torrente, on the other hand, demolished Carlos Acaso, 6-0, 6-1, to forge a quarterfinal duel with No. 5 Rafael Benigno Cablitas, who scored a 6-2, 6-4 win over Carlos Nikolai.
Third seed Liam James Oscar Harrow and fourth seed Raven Licayan also made it to the next round of the Group 2 event sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association.
Harrow likewise whipped Miguel Benjamin Yambao, 6-0, 6-0, to arrange a quarterfinal showdown with No. 7 Joaquin Daycon, a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Yuan Kristoff Ringor.
Licayan walked over Carlos Andres Lorenzana to advance against Maxime Angelo Alegria, who was leading 1-0 in the first set when his opponent, Kian Cansana, retired.
Competition in the girls’ division is scheduled on Aug. 14 to 18.
After the Parañaque leg, the tournament under the Palawan Pawnshop junior program shifts to Santa Rosa City, Laguna on Aug. 21 to 25 and Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. (PNA)
