Was Dominique Kohl, Quinn's Victim In Reacher Season 3, Another Special Investigator?

The three episodes of Reacher season 3 introduced Dominique Kohl, a former military colleague of Jack Reacher who was brutally killed by Xavier Quinn. Although Reacher doesn't go into much detail when Duffy asks him about Kohl, it's evident that whatever Quinn did to her was so bad that it was unspeakable. Kohl, a former Army Lieutenant, is played by Mariah Robinson. Her character looks to be explored further in Reacher season 3, episode 4 which is titled "Dominique".

Out of all the villains in Reacher season 3, Quinn appears to be the most dangerous, ruthless, and hardest to access. This makes him the perfect antagonist for Reacher as he goes undercover to help Duffy find a missing DEA informant named Teresa. While Quinn is operating under a new alias, Julius McCabe, and is being targeted by the DEA for drug trafficking, Reacher knows him from the past and has unfinished business. Quinn left the Army and sold military secrets to enemies of the United States, which is only a fraction of the reason why Reacher wants him dead.

Kohl Was Not An Official Member Of The 110th Special Investigators

Kohl was a U.S. Lieutenant who was assigned to work under Reacher when he was active in the military, which Lee Child's books indicate was from 1990 to 1997. Reacher describes Kohl to Duffy as, "a kid" who "was young but smart, capable, determined." He calls Kohl "a natural", which is how Duffy described Teresa.

When Duffy asks Reacher what Quinn did to her, Reacher can't speak, showing an emotional side that is extremely out of his character. Reacher could say more about his brother, who died in season 1, than he could about Kohl.

Although Kohl would have been around while Reacher was the head of the 110th Military Police Special Investigations unit, she is not officially part of the Special Investigators, who took the spotlight in Reacher season 2. The complete list of 110th Special Investigators consists of nine members: Frances Neagley, the only one to appear in multiple seasons, Karla Dixon, Reacher's season 2 love interest, David O'Donnell, Calvin Franz, Tony Swan, Stan Lowrey, Jorge Sanchez, and Manuel Orozco.

Reacher searching for revenge against an enemy for killing his former military colleague sounds like a premise that was taken right out of Reacher season 2. In fact, there's an element of vengeance that drives virtually all of Reacher's decisions in all three seasons of the Prime Video series. Reacher wants Quinn to pay for Kohl but he must also consider Duffy's desire to find and rescue Teresa so that she can avoid facing the same fate that Kohl did.

It's hard to ignore the similarity of Reacher's drive across seasons, even though it's a great way to learn more about Reacher's past in the military while also following along a new unfolding story. Reacher and the surviving Special Investigators got their revenge against those responsible in season 2, hinting at what's to come for Reacher's foes in Reacher season 3.
