Was Farmer Wants A Wife's Samantha Riehl A Producer Plant? (Her Red Flags Were Probably Obvious To The Casting Team)

Samantha Riehl’s fiery pursuit of Farmer John Sansone made her stand out among the competition on Farmer Wants A Wife, raising suspicion that she may have been intentionally cast as the season 3 villain. Out of the thirty-two women competing for Farmers John, Matt Warren, Jay Woods, and Colton Hendricks, Samantha commanded the most attention with her high standards and unwillingness to compromise. She appeared to receive a disproportionate amount of screen time, which suggests producers intentionally put her at the forefront to create drama.

Despite being granted one-on-one time with John early in the season, Samantha was still insecure. She stressed the importance of loyalty in a relationship, which seems at odds with the nature of reality dating competitions. As the season progressed, Samantha grew increasingly overwhelmed, eventually pondering her future with John and weighing whether she should depart the competition early. The drama and suspense surrounding Samantha’s storyline adds to suspicion that her casting may have been a ploy to stir up excitement.

Samantha Was Rude To Her Love Interest

She Never Seemed That Into John

While Samantha claims to be on the show to find her husband, her actions show otherwise.

She came in on the attack during her speed date with Farmer John, interrogating him just moments after meeting.

Most other contestants used the opportunity to build an emotional connection with their farmers, but Samantha appeared to be interviewing John to decide whether he was good enough for her.

Despite Samantha’s feisty attitude, Farmer John awarded her the first solo date, bringing her back to his St. Louis farm 24 hours before the other contestants. While he thought all was going well, Samantha pulled back when he tried to kiss her, explaining that she didn’t want her future husband to see her kissing someone else on TV. The fact that she was already thinking about future relationships was a huge red flag. While John respected Samantha’s boundaries, he told his friends the experience made him doubt Samantha’s authenticity, remarking, “I’m still not really sure if she’s here for me.”

Samantha May Be Chasing Clout

Is She Using The Show To Advance Her Career?

Samantha’s social media presence suggests ulterior motives for her appearance on Farmer Wants A Wife season 3.Samantha has 100K followers on Instagram. Even more impressive, Samantha has over 850K followers on TikTok.

Samantha’s feeds focus heavily on clothing and beauty products. Her content, along with her horde of followers, indicates that Samantha’s ultimate goal is to build a brand as a social media influencer. It’s no stretch to imagine Samantha may have viewed her television appearance as a means to further her career as an influencer, rather than a genuine opportunity to find a husband, which could make her a plant by producers.

Samantha May Not Want To Be A Farmer's Wife

She’s A City Girl At Heart

Not everybody is cut out for farm life, and Samantha seems totally unwilling to adapt to John’s lifestyle. Her discomfort was visible when she was moving bales of hay, complaining about it hurting her hands and remarking, “there better not be bugs in here.” Samantha later admitted to John’s friends that she’s “a So Cal girl, not a farmer.” She seemed shocked at the idea that compromise might be necessary in her relationship, proving she’s nowhere near ready to change her life and become a farmer’s wife.

Samantha’s made it very clear what she wants, and that isn’t a future with John. She even admitted she’d intended to leave Farmer Wants A Wife if John wasn’t the right fit for her, but she was caught off guard when her feelings for him made the choice harder than expected. This detail Samantha let slip seems to confirm she never intended to fall in love and was likely planning to leave after receiving adequate publicity.
