According to the PTI report, the order read, "It has been brought to the notice of the State Government that Manas Chakraborty has been appointed as Registrar to West Bengal Medical Council on re-employment since 01.11.2019 without previous sanction of the government."

Several associations of doctors have lodged written complaints to the state health department demanding Chakraborty's removal from the position alleging that the appointment was "illegal".

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that accusing the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) of being the epicentre of corruption and the origin of threat culture, senior doctors alongside a section of the public, gheraoed the council office in Salt Lake. It was reported that the Joint Platform of Doctors called upon senior doctors to join the protest in front of the West Bengal Medical Council's office. They were seeking justice for the postgraduate medical student who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
