"What Mod Is This Even From?": Stardew Valley Fan Baffled By Interaction With Wisecracking Seagull Who Insults Their Mother
Stardew Valley has its share of mods but one mysterious joke-telling seagull has players a bit confused. The Stardew Valley community has many mods, and the game's developer, ConcernedApe, even encourages them. When Update 1.6 was released, he did his best to ensure existing mods worked as soon as possible after launch. The modding community keeps fans playing long after they've finished the main story, consistently breathing new life into a nine-year-old game.
One mod, however, has completely baffled Reddit user The_God_Of_Darkness_, who posted a screenshot of dialogue with a seagull making a joke at the expense of the player's mother. The Redditor asked the community, "What mod is this even from? I just walked to the beach and saw a creepy looking seagull and it's doing yo mama jokes." The confusion arises from the original poster apparently having over 300 mods installed and running, a fact that has also perplexed many fans.
The Insulting Seagull Was Added To Stardew Valley In An Unrelated Mod
Mods Sometimes Add More To The Game Than Fans Expected
There is no explanation for what Docky the mean seagull is doing in this heavily modded version of Stardew Valley. To make matters more confusing, the seagull is apparently listed as "single" but doesn't currently accept gifts. The original poster of the screenshot wonders why anyone would "date a seagull that starts your friendship by insulting your mother." The mention of seagull dating has some fans fondly recalling the absurd but excellent pigeon-dating sim, Hatoful Boyfriend. As Reddit user AurelianoTampa puts it, "Hatoful Boyfriend is leaking!"
After some sleuthing, fellow fans discovered that the mod that brought Docky the seagull to this player's Stardew Valley is the Hakan NPC mod from Nexus Mods, which adds a wolfman NPC to the game. The mod's creator hakydaky included a note about the seagull noting that Docky will be explained and expanded into a full character in the next update, but "for now, he will just hurl insults at you."
Fans Share Their Dream Stardew Valley Romance And Roommate Options
More Platonic Options Would Be Welcome By The Community
Stardew Valley's creator, ConcernedApe is known for putting jokes into his game, but a dateable seagull may be going too far even for him. Still, players wish they could have more options for dateable characters or even platonic roommate options. Some fans cite Krobus as their choice for their playthroughs, a monster who can become the farmer's roommate if players decide not to pursue any of the game's eight bachelors and bachelorettes. Others cite other options, like Reddit user mavis_24, who wishes they could have the Dwarf as a housemate.
Lucky for fans, many mods exist that add NPCs, romance options, and more friendly characters to interact with. For those players who prefer to be insulted, there are, apparently, mods for that too. Between the regular updates from ConcernedApe and the active modding community, Stardew Valley remains a game full of surprises.
