What Pokémon Each Baldur's Gate 3 Companion Would Have
Without a doubt, some of the most beloved characters in Baldur's Gate 3 are the ten recruitable companions that players can come across during their journey. Each of them has unique personalities and fighting styles, helping to add a wide variety to traveling groups. With how intriguing all of these companions are, it would be very intriguing to figure out what Pokémon best suits each of them.
Over a thousand Pokémon exist across the decades, with all of them finding unique ways to stand out from the rest. Whether it be due to their immense strength, eye-catching appearance, or adorable personality, there will surely be a Pokémon that fits everyone. With so much variety to choose from, many creatures would fit well alongside the Baldur's Gate 3 companions, but only certain ones can be considered absolutely perfect for each of them.
10 Minsc And Morpeko Are Similar In More Than One Way
An Adorable Electric Rodent Similar To Boo
Minsc, the human ranger in BG3, is best known for his immense strength and endearing personality, but by far, the best thing about him is hisadorable hamster companion named Boo. Although Boo may seem rather cute and harmless at first glance, players can use the little rodent to attack opponents by throwing him. In a way, this almost makes Boo somewhat similar to a Pokémon in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, which is undeniably adorable.
One Pokémon that would fit Minsc is the Electric-type Morpeko from Pokémon Sword & Shield. Much like Boo, Morpeko seems initially adorable at first glance thanks to its Full Belly mode, which gives it big eyes and a wide smile, but it can hit opponents for a lot of damage with its wide variety of electric attacks. Furthermore, when it switches into its Hangry mode, it'll become brutish and unleash devastating Dark-type attacks until its hunger is fully satisfied again.
9 Jaheira & Sceptile Use Nearly Identical Blade Warfare
An Agile Fighter With Many Nature Powers
This half-elf druid is an immensely powerful threat on the battlefield, so her ideal partner Pokémon would want to reflect that combat prowess, speed, and versatility. The Generation 3 Grass-type Sceptile would be very fitting, considering how well Jaheira is able to utilize her swords during combat. Sceptile has blades on its arms, which are said to be so strong they can cut cleanly through thick trees, and its immense speed makes it a significant threat in battle.
On top of this, Sceptile can also utilize and manipulate plants during battle, much like Jaheira can. Sceptile can utilize leaves, large trees, and even the sun's power to damage their opponents, meaning it has a wide variety of powers at its disposal. All of these combine to make Sceptile a great Pokémon for Jaheira, as it can match her versatility in combat and her color scheme.
8 Halsin & Torterra Are Both Kind And Gentle Leaders
Both Tough Yet Gentle Giants
Halsin is a powerful druid who deserves a Pokémon that matcheshis strength and love of nature. With that in mind, the fully-evolved Generation 4 Grass-type Torterra would be a fantastic companion for him. Although Torterra is relatively slow, it cannot be denied just how powerful it is, as it can manipulate both plants and the ground itself through moves like Leaf Storm and Earthquake to deal immense amounts of damage to opponents.
Despite Halsin's imposing size, he is an incredibly kind and gentle leader. Similarly, Torterra are known for helping much smaller Pokémon, particularly birds, by allowing them to build nests in the growing trees on their backs. With all this in mind, it seems incredibly fitting that the two would fit together very well due to being parallels of each other.
7 Minthara & Ariados Have Dangerous Auras
Efficient Users Of Poison
As a Drow Paladin serving the spider goddess Lolth, numerous spider-like Pokémon would fit Minthara well. Out of the many options for arachnid Pokémon that are out there, Ariadosis a clear standout due to how well it would fit alongside Minthara. Its color palette matches well with her own, and they both have a dangerous aura about them, making them a good compliment to each other.
Minthara is also well known for utilizing a great number of poisons on both enemies and allies alike. Due to Ariados being part Poison-type, it too has numerous poisonous attacks like Poison Sting and Cross Poison that can inflict a nasty status condition on any foe that comes across it, making these two a perfect match for each other.
6 Gale & Alakazam Use Intelligence To Their Advantage
Incredibly Intellectual Magic Users
Many Pokémon could match Gale's magical prowess, but out of the many options available, Alakazam would be very fitting for the wizard. This Psychic-type Pokémon has numerous powerful abilities similar to wizard spells in D&D, including Teleport, Hypnosis, and Confusion, all of which can be very useful in battle.
Another reason why Alakazam would be an excellent fit for Gale is that a wizard's primary stat is intelligence. The Pokédex explains that Alakazam has a fantastic memory, allowing it to remember everything thanks to its brain has enough power to rival a supercomputer. This means that Alakazam is incredibly powerful and intelligent, making it a great companion that could rival Gale's intellect.
5 Astarion Is Fast & Sneaky, Like Weavile
Both Masters Of Stealth & Cunning
Some of the Rogue class' best stats are dexterity and stealth, meaning that Astarion's Pokémon would need to be both incredibly fast and sneaky at the same time. Although countless Pokémon are incredibly fast compared to humans, the Generation 4 Pokémon Weavile would be a fantastic fit. According to the Pokédex, Weavile is known for being incredibly fast and cunning, using their speed and craftiness to catch opponents off guard before attacking.
Although Astarion wouldn't have any connection to Weavile's Ice-typing, the fact that he is a vampire spawn means that he has a connection to Weavile being a Dark-type. Combined with the fact that Weavile has sharp fangs and red eyes, it matches Astarion well visually.
4 Shadowheart & Umbreon Share Many Parallels
Both Have Connections To The Moon
Considering Shadowheart's tragic backstory and how it relates to the moon goddess Selune, Umbreon would be a very fitting Pokémon for her. This Dark-type Eeveelution is known asthe Moonlight Pokémon, which is fitting considering how it gains a mysterious power whenever it's underneath the light of a full moon. Furthermore, with Shadowheart's Cleric domain allowing her to utilize numerous tactics of trickery, it can match how Umbreon can blend itself into the shadows to hide from its prey until it's time to attack.
Umbreon's appearance and Dark-typing also help to fit Shadowheart's personality throughout most of the game. She is known to be very secretive, keeping much to herself unless she feels she can open up, and Umbreon is certainly one Pokémon that can match her vibe.
3 Wyll Likes To Use Dark-Type Moves Like Houndoom
The Warlock Gets His Hellhound
Being a Warlock means that Wyll has ties to Hells, thanks to his patron, Mizora, who has allowed him to utilize numerous dark powers. In the Pokémon world, not many creatures look like they could come from anywhere, resembling the nine hells found in Dungeons & Dragons, but Houndoom would work because it is based on a hellhound. Its status as a Dark-type would easily fit in with Wyll's Warlock class and the numerous magical abilities he can use.
Many nobles are often known to have extravagant pets, though it can be easy to see how Houndoom could be a gift from Mizora, allowing him to have a companion from the hells at his side. It would be an incredibly strong and useful companion, though there is the unsettling fact that the pain from Houndoom's fire will never fade should anyone happen to become burned by it. Much like his own dark magic, Wyll would no doubt use his Houndoom's powers for heroic reasons, and it would no doubt follow his every command due to how fiercely loyal hellhounds are known to be.
2 Karlach's Personality Is Very Similar To Emboar's
Fierce Flaming Warriors With Kind Hearts
If Karlach were to get her own Pokémon, she would need one that would match her in terms of strength and her fiery, passionate personality. While countless Fire-type Pokémon would suit her well, the Generation 5 starter Emboar would be a fantastic fit for numerous reasons. The Pokédex states that Emboar is a Pokémon that cares deeply about its friends, which matches Karlach's personality, as she is known to be very kind and caring towards others despite her past and rugged appearance.
On top of its endearing and fiery personality, Emboar also suits Karlach due to the immense power it has at its disposal. Emboar loves getting into fights and has mastered numerous Fire- and Fighting-type moves to deal with as much damage as possible, including setting its own fists on fire with its flaming beard. Its sheer strength alone would make it an excellent fit for any D&D barbarian, but its empathetic nature means that it and Karlach would be able to see eye-to-eye in many situations, working together to protect their allies however they can.
1 Lae'zel & Gallade Are Loyal Fighters
Both Powerful, Unyielding Sword Wielders
As a fierce warrior devoted to her Lich queen Vlaakith, Lae'zel fights to end the Ilithid thread with all her might, meaning that she needs a Pokémon that is just as loyal of a fighter as she is. With that in mind, the Generation 4 Pokémon Gallade would be the perfect fit for her because it fights with its blades to protect others from harm. With both her and the Pokémon proving to be accurate, honorable warriors, it is clear how this Baldur's Gate 3 companion would fit perfectly alongside her catchable monster.
