Wheel Of Time Showrunner Promises 2 Key Characters Will Be "Serviced" In Season 3 After Viewers' Disappointment With Season 2 Development
The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins promises two key characters will be "serviced" in season 3 after their disappointing season 2 development. The Wheel of Time's ensemble cast introduced a multitude of characters with important stories tied to the Dragon Reborn's return. Some prominent ones include Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski), who is the Dragon Reborn, alongside Aes Sedai Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike), former Wisdom Nynaeve al'Meara (Zoë Robins), and a blacksmith turned wolfbrother Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford). However, with such a large cast, season 2 wasn't able to equally focus on everyone, with some stories stealing the spotlight.
Speaking with RadioTimes, however, Judkins promised that Rand and Perrin would be getting a larger focus during The Wheel of Time season 3. The showrunner admitted that, despite how important both characters had been in the book series, their time on the show had been less of a focus compared to other characters. Now, however, there is a plan in place for those two in particular in the upcoming episodes, which will feature them in more important roles than ever before. Check out what Judkins had to say below:
For those people who have felt under-serviced in previous seasons, I can assure them that this season we've always been planning to and you really get to see these great characters serviced.
I love Rand and Perrin just as much as they do and this is the right time to really see those characters shine and you really get to. And Marcus [Rutherford] and Josha [Stradowski], who play them, are really up to the task of what we ask of them this season.
What Rand & Perrin's Bigger Roles Mean For The Wheel Of Time Season 3
The Pair's Important Focus Was Set Up During Season 2
The Wheel of Time season 2 endedwith the world learning Rand is the Dragon Reborn, setting the stage for the bigger role Judkins is hinting at. As for Perrin, his story journey led him to cross paths with Aviendha (Ayoola Smart), an Aiel warrior in search of the Car'a'carn, a leader from prophecy who will unite the clans of the Aiel Waste. Both of their stories appear to be setting the stage for season 3, as each of them continues with quests that will define their place in the wider world.

The Wheel Of Time Season 3 Looks Like The Beginning Of The End For One Doomed Romance
A trailer for The Wheel of Time season 3 strongly implies that one of the show's biggest love stories is about to finally run its course.
The books offer some guidance as well, with The Wheel of Time season 3 mostly pulling from Robert Jordan's fourth entry in the series, The Shadow Rising. The novel focuses on the Aiel Waste as an important location, with Rand also getting wrapped up in their story. Because Perrin already has a connection to Aviendha, it makes sense for him to also play an important role as the location gets further explored. A shared storyline would also help them get a greater focus while still having enough time to focus on other characters just as much.
The Wheel of Time book series consists of 14 main books and a prequel, New Spring.
Our Take On Rand & Perrin's Bigger Season 3 Focus
The Wheel Of Time Is Pushing Its Story In The Right Direction
By giving Rand and Perrin a larger focus in The Wheel of Time season 3, the show is promising a deeper focus on two characters at the core of season 1 once again. While they had fallen into the background a bit during season 2, the setup for their journeys makes their focus during season 3 unsurprising. With Rand confirmed as the Dragon Reborn and Perrin building new connections with the Aiel, some promising storylines are bound to unfold.
The Wheel of Time season 3 begins Thursday, March 13 on Prime Video.
