Who Plays Ted Black's Dad In Suits LA? Stephen Amell's Arrowverse Reunion Explained
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Suits LA season 1, episode 1, "Seven Days a Week and Twice on Sundays."
Ted Black’s dad in Suits LA creates an unexpected Arrowverse reunion in the Suits spinoff. The Suits LA pilot introduced a lot of characters and potential conflicts out of the gate, including but not limited to Ted Black’s past and his relationship with his father. The new Suits show opened with a flashback sequence set in 2010, the year in which Ted, still working as a prosecutor in New York, risked his career over a case that escalated drastically after a witness was killed. However, Ted Black’s ghosts from the past are not just career-related but also include his family.
Suits LA’s lead character has a lot of skeletons in his closet, and while we don’t get all of the answers right away, the pilot does establish that Ted Black’s relationship with his father was a complicated one. Not only was Ted’s dad often more focused on his work than his family, but he also never seemed to care about his other son, Eddie. Additionally, Ted’s father was apparently involved in whatever led to the death of Eddie in Suits LA. Interestingly, the actor who plays Ted’s father and Amell have a shared history.
Matt Letscher Plays Ted Black's Father In Suits LA
Ted’s Father Appears In Flashbacks And The Present Day
American actor Matt Letscher, 54, plays Ted Black’s father in Suits LA. Letscher has been active since 1992, with some of his first major TV roles being in Almost Perfect and Living in Captivity. Letscher’s big break came with the role of Captain Harrison Love in 1998’s The Mask of Zorro. Since then, he has appeared in a series of movies and TV shows, including 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, The Carrie Diaries, and Narcos: Mexico. Letscher was also part of the CW’s Arrowverse, first appearing in The Flash as Eobard Thawne.
Matt Letscher's Notable Movies & Shows | Role |
|---|---|
The Mask of Zorro | Captain Harrison Love |
The Carrie Diaries | Tom Bradshaw |
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi | Ambassador Chris Stevens |
The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow | Eobard Thawne |
Narcos: Mexico | Jaime Kuykendall |
While Tom Cavanagh played the Reverse Flash for most of The Flash season 1, we eventually discover that Eobard Thawne is pretending to be Harrison Wells, a scientist who died before the events of the show. Matt Letscher played the evil speedster in his real form, a role he eventually reprised not only in later seasons of The Flash but also in Legends of Tomorrow.
Suits LA Stages An Arrowverse Reunion Between Matt Letscher & Stephen Amell
Letscher Played The Reverse Flash In The CW Franchise Led By Amell’s Arrow
The fact that Matt Letscher plays Ted Black’s dad in Suits LA will not go unnoticed by Arrowverse fans. After all, Stephen Amell was Oliver Queen in The CW’s Arrow, the show around which an entire shared universe was created. The Flash was the first of many Arrow spinoffs, with shows such as Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and Batwoman also being brought into the mix between crossovers and continuity mergers. Curiously, why Oliver Queen fought the Reverse Flash a couple of times, Amell’s Oliver never actually faced Letscher’s Eobard.

Suits LA Episode 1: All 3 Major Twists Explained
While it doesn't have a narrative hook like Suits did, Suits: LA episode 1 ends with several twists that set the rest of Ted Black's story.
The first time Oliver met the Reverse Flash – at least from our perspective – was when Eobard Thawne was still using Harrison Wells’ face, meaning the villain was being played by Cavanagh. Other interactions between the characters, including the “Crisis on Earth X” crossover, also involved a version of the Reverse Flash whose face was still that of Harrison Wells. Regardless, seeing two Arrowverse actors sharing the screen in Suits LA was a nice moment for fans of The CW’s superhero universe. With much about Black’s past yet to be revealed, there will surely be more scenes involving Amell and Letscher.
