Wicked Star Cynthia Erivo Reveals Her Next Dream Role Is The MCU’s Storm In Marvel Studios' X-Men Reboot

With Marvel Studios still working on their X-Men reboot for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the main Wicked movie actors has expressed interest in joining the franchise as one of Marvel's most iconic mutants. As The Multiverse Saga is getting closer to its end, Marvel Studios is actively developing their X-Men reboot movie, as the mutants will finally have a big presence in the MCU timeline. While a release date has yet to be set for Marvel Studios' X-Men, there will be plenty of characters to cast in the film, and one of those roles will be Storm.

In a new interview withNational Board of Review, Wicked actress Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba in the new musical movie adaptation, was asked if there is a dream role she has in mind for herself. The British star opened up about how she would love to play Storm, stressing that she feels that the world has yet to see how "grand she is," as she stated the following:

I really want to play Storm. I know it sounds frivolous but I don’t think we’ve uncovered how grand she is and all of the inner turmoil that she has. So I think there’s a world in which we could do something like that.

What Cynthia Erivo's Storm Comments Mean For The MCU's X-Men Reboot

For now, time will tell if the X-Men movie reboot, written by Michael Lesslie, will feature Ororo Munroe, as the line-up has yet to be revealed. Erivo's comments about wanting to play Storm show not only her interest in the character, but also that she is paying attention to the superhero's comics history. In the Marvel lore, Storm has always been known as one of the most powerful characters in existence, making her a force to be reckoned with in comparison to other superheroes.

Erivo is also not wrong when it comes to Storm's full potential, which has yet to be seen on the big screen, as the previous live-action versions of the Marvel icon have received a lot of criticism from major fans of the character. The best example of Storm in on-screen media thus far is through X-Men: The Animated Series and its sequel series, X-Men '97, where Ororo has been able to shine in a way that should be easy to explore in the world of live-action. That is why Kevin Feige's X-Men reboot has the chance to properly elevate Storm, as she will likely be a crucial player in the MCU going forward.

Following what Erivo has shared about her interest in playing Storm in the MCU so far, it would be phenomenal to see an actor of her caliber be cast for the X-Men reboot, especially after her performance in Wicked. While Marvel Studios hasn't revealed what plans they have for Storm yet, it will be fascinating to see how she stands out from previous live-action versions. Hopefully, once the X-Men reboot actually starts casting, Erivo will at least be considered for Storm in the MCU's future.
