Will Trent Season 3, Episode 7 Teases A Big Change For 1 Important Character

Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Will Trent season 3, episode 7, "Mariachi Shelly's Frankenstein."

Big things are happening in Will Trent season 3, and based on one person's easy-to-miss remark in episode 7, "Mariachi Shelly's Frankenstein," a change is in store for another character. The ABC police procedural TV show, created by Liz Heldens, Daniel T. Thomsen, and Karin Slaughter, is an adaptation of Slaughter's book series of the same name. It chronicles the work and personal lives of Will Trent, a remarkable special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). He is surrounded by four other main Will Trent characters — Angie Polaski, Faith Mitchell, Amanda Wagner, and Michael Ormewood.

ABC releases new episodes of Will Trent season 3 on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET, followed by new episodes of The Rookie season 7 at 9 pm ET.

Among Will Trent season 3's characters, almost everyone is undergoing changes. Will is adjusting to a world where a future with Angie is impossible and is exploring a new romance with Marion Alba. Angie is getting her life back after getting arrested. Faith has bought a new house and is trying to trust Will again after he left without saying anything all those months ago. Amanda has taken in the teenage child of a gang leader. Lastly, Ormewood is going through a divorce and a custody battle. It's safe to say that each Will Trent character has a lot going on.

Amanda Complimenting Angie Suggests She Might Leave APD For GBI

The GBI Deputy Director Praises Angie's Work On The Case

In Will Trent season 3, episode 7, Will and Angie work together to track down a serial killer, who is trapped in their office building amid a blackout. They're successful, but mostly thanks to Angie. She believed John Shelley was framed for his crimes and knew the real murderer was out there. If Angie hadn't pushed hard for this theory, Shelley would still be behind bars and District Attorney Freddy Markovic would have gotten away with killing all those women and stabbing Caroline. Consequently, Amanda praises Angie for her work on the case.

Towards the end of "Mariachi Shelly's Frankenstein," Amanda tells Angie, "Great work today." It's a simple flattering remark on the surface, but given what Angie has gone through since the ending of Will Trent season 2, it must mean the world. However, Amanda's praise goes deeper than that as it might foreshadow Angie leaving the Atlanta Police Department for the GBI in Will Trent season 3. The episode goes out of its way to highlight Amanda's compliment to Angie specifically. If Amanda is recognizing Angie's talents, she might be open to considering her for a position on her team.

As some might recall, Angie was on the precipice of joining the GBI during the Will Trent season 2 finale. Amanda offered her a job, and Angie was eager to jump on the opportunity. If certain events didn't happen, she would undoubtedly already be a special agent with the GBI, working alongside Will (who would likely still be her boyfriend in this scenario). Unfortunately, circumstances prevented that from happening.

In the last episode of Will Trent season 2,Will arrested Angie for tampering with evidence and making false statements concerning Lenny Broussard's murder. He learned the truth after Crystal died. Will contemplated not turning her in, but his duty to the law won the war against his heart. As a result, Angie was fired, but a lenient judge later dismissed her charges. Only a few episodes into Will Trent season 3, Angie rejoined the APD, and based on episode 7, the previous tease concerning her promotion to the GBI might become a reality very soon.

Should Angie Receive A Promotion In Will Trent Season 3?

Angie Was Quickly Reinstated As An APD Detective

Even though Amanda's praise of Angie implies the GBI Deputy Director is willing to reconsider hiring her, that doesn't mean she should receive a promotion. Angie easily got her job back in Will Trent season 3, episode 3, which was bad enough. It didn't make much sense for the APD to reinstate her given her crimes.

Nevertheless, Angie still has a lot of work to do before she can earn a spot with the GBI.

Still, there was only so much the ABC series could do to ensure Angie was still a part of the narrative. Nevertheless, Angie still has a lot of work to do before she can earn a spot with the GBI. Based on Will Trent season 3, episode 7, though, it might not matter if Amanda is more lenient with Angie than she should be.
