Wonder Woman Game Cancelled Alongside Major Closures At Warner Bros. Games, According To New Report
Warner Bros. Games has scrapped its troubled Wonder Woman video game, as part of a massive reorganization that includes the shutdown of three different game studios. Back in November, WB head David Zaslav noted that Warner Bros. Games was significantly underperforming, leading to speculation that seismic changes would be underway. One of the biggest potential targets was a Wonder Woman game being developed by Monolith Productions.
Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier is reporting that Warner Bros. Games is canceling the Wonder Woman game as well as shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego. Schreier's initial report includes no further details about why the moves were happening, although the Wonder Woman game has reportedly been in trouble for quite some time.

The Wonder Woman Game Is Officially Canceled, Reports Claim
WB Games Has Struggled To Deliver Hits, Leading To A Mass Reorganization
One of the biggest reasons why Warner Bros. has shaken up its game studios is that two recent high-level games have greatly underperformed compared to expectations.Suicide Squad bombed as a live-service game in 2024, while Multiversusis winding down after WB Games shut it down after beta and relaunched it.
In a statement provided to Kotaku, Warner Bros. Games noted that it was structuring its games studios around "key franchises" that include Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, DC, and Game of Thrones.
The statement also provided additional details about why Wonder Woman was scrapped. "Our hope was to give players and fans the highest quality experience possible for the iconic character, and unfortunately this is no longer possible within our strategic priorities," the statement read. "This is another tough decision, as we recognize Monolith’s storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games."
Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego To Shut Down
Two Of The Studios Were Tied To Troubled Or Failed Game Projects
Monolith Productions is best known for the Lord of the Rings: Shadows of Mordor series and its patented nemesis system. The Wonder Woman game was set to incorporate that system but struggled, leading to delays in production and creative reboots. Meanwhile, Player First Games is the developer of Multiversus, which shut down last year. WB San Diego was focused on mobile games, another area that WB Games has struggled with greatly.
Hopefully, more official statements about the shutdowns will be released by Warner Bros. Games in the coming days to fully understand what forced this decision.
