Yellowjackets Season 3 Finally Explains Adult Nat's First Words To Misty Back In Season 1
Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Yellowjackets season 3, episode 9, "How the Story Ends."
Three years after season 1, Yellowjacketsseason 3 is finally offering an explanation for Natalie's first words to Misty in the show's adult timeline. Misty has a tenuous relationship with the other survivors in both the '90s and present-day storylines. However, her bond with Natalie is especially strained in the latter. When Misty first shows up at Natalie's door in Yellowjackets season 1, episode 2, Natalie immediately insults her. Nat isn't even that hostile towards Shauna, despite everything that teen Shauna does in Yellowjackets' season 3's past timeline.
Natalie clearly dislikes adult Misty, and she's fully aware of what the other woman is capable of. Still, season 1 never explains her peculiar reaction to Misty's reappearance in her life. Fortunately, Yellowjackets season 3, episode 9 finally provides an answer. Natalie learns what Misty is hiding from the other girls in the past storyline, and it's the most likely explanation for why she's so cold towards Misty in adulthood. Although Natalie probably won't seek revenge, her knowledge of Misty's wrongdoing will change her opinion of her.
Nat Finding Out That Misty Destroyed The Black Box Explains Her "You Crazy B***" Line From Yellowjackets Season 1, Episode 2
That Comment Had To Be About More Than Killing People
The end of Yellowjackets season 3, episode 9 sees Misty returning to the plane's transponder (also called the black box in the show), which she intentionally broke back in season 1. One of Misty's first acts in the Wilderness — and arguably her biggest mistake in Yellowjackets — is locating and destroying the plane's recorder. The girls hoped it would get them rescued, but Misty throws that possibility out the window. Although the others don't know it, Misty jeopardizes everything because she feels needed after the crash and wants that to continue.

I Truly Did Not Expect For Misty To Turn Out To Be Yellowjackets' Most Normal Adult Character
The survivors in Yellowjackets season 3’s adult timeline are losing their grip on normalcy, and Misty is somehow emerging as the most grounded.
None of the other girls know what Misty did with the transponder; Crystal is the only person who finds out, and she ultimately dies because of Misty's secret. Now Natalie is also realizing what Misty did, and it perfectly explains why she refers to adult Misty as "you crazy f***ing b****" upon seeing her again. Natalie knows that Misty is responsible for much of the suffering that occurred in the Wilderness — and that she put them all at risk for her own selfish ends. It's no wonder Nat is so hostile towards her in the adult timeline.
For Natalie to call out Misty's "crazy" behavior, she had to be referring to something even worse.
In the teen story, Misty doesn't do anything that much crazier than the other survivors. She participates in the hunts and kills people, but that's true for most of the Yellowjackets. For Natalie to call out Misty's "crazy" behavior, she had to be referring to something even worse. It seems the destruction of the black box is the answer, though Natalie probably won't expose her for it. She doesn't want more blood on her hands, and she's too eager to find a way home.
Why Misty Finally Wants To Help Them Get Home After Originally Destroying The Black Box
She Never Expected To Be In The Wilderness This Long
Although Misty breaks the black box in Yellowjackets season 1, she's now using its parts to try and get home. This is because Misty never intended for the girls to be trapped in the Wilderness for this long. Her impulsive decision in season 1 costs them greatly, but it's not something she gives much thought to. She likely believes they'll be rescued quickly regardless of what she has done — and that she'll have gained the other girls' friendship and respect in the meantime.

The More We Learn About Yellowjackets' Wilderness Timeline, The More The Adult Storyline Doesn't Make Sense
Things are heating up in Yellowjackets season 3’s Wilderness timeline, but the events of the teen story are making it harder to believe the adult one.
Of course, now Misty realizes help isn't coming, and she wants to go home eventually. While she doesn't seem as eager as some of the girls, she does dream about using indoor plumbing and toilet paper again in Yellowjackets season 3. She also realizes that they can't remain out there forever, at least not without most of them dying. Coach Ben's death is a significant loss for her, and she knows what happens when winter arrives. Misty may not be willing to tell Shauna they need to leave, but she's capable of piecing together what will happen if they don't.
