Yellowjackets Season 3 Images: Cannibalism Begins As Shauna Attacks Teammate Mari While The Fight For Survival Continues
Yellowjackets season 3 gets a series of new images, one of which seemingly shows cannibalism beginning with Shauna. Created by Asley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, the hit Showtime series chronicles a high school girls soccer team's attempts to survive in the wilderness following a plane crash and the lasting trauma from the experience decades later. The show returned for its sophomore outing in 2023, with the bonds between team members becoming more frail than ever, and Yellowjackets season 3 is now set to kick that into high gear.
Ahead of the Yellowjackets season 3 premiere, EW shares a handful of new images from the upcoming episodes, one of which shows Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) biting Mari's (Alexa Barajas) hand. The other images show off what's to come from both of the series' timelines, including a suspicious Misty (Christina Ricci), teen Lotti (Courtney Eaton) staring at teen Travis (Kevin Alves), teen Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) taking charge, adult Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) bonding with Callie (Sarah Desjardins), adult Taissa (Tawny Cyrpress) looking after a sick Van (Lauren Ambrose), and teen Misty (Samantha Hanratty) sitting with Travis. What The New Images Mean For Yellowjackets Season 3
Cannibalism Could Be Front & Center When The Showtime Series Returns
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Yellowjackets season 2.
From the first episode of Yellowjackets, it's been teased that the team will eventually engage in a ritual form of cannibalism to survive. The show did explore cannibalism more in season 2, with the team eating the dead Jackie (Ella Purnell) as food became scarce, but Jackie was already dead when they chose to do this. What the show hasn't yet done, is show members of the team being hunted and killed and then eaten, with the cannibalism becoming ritualistic and violent. The latest images suggest this could be getting closer.
It's not clear if Shauna is actually attempting to eat Mari in the image above. The pair could be fighting and Shauna could be biting as a combat tactic, for example. If Shauna is trying to eat Mari, though, the show could be taking a dark turn after the Yellowjackets season 2 finale. With their cabin having gone up in flames, tensions could be running high, and this could mean that audiences will be saying goodbye to more characters as things boil over.

Season 3 Won't Be All Cannibalism
While the struggle to survive in the '90s-set storyline continues to be a core part of the show, the images above suggest Lyle and Nickerson aren't forgetting about the present day. Following the events of the Yellowjackets season 2 finale and Natalie's death, the images suggest that Misty could be struggling with her role in what transpired. Shauna, on the other hand, has had a very rocky relationship with Callie in past seasons, but one of the images above suggests the pair could begin season 3 on much surer footing.
Yellowjackets season 2 reviews were positive from critics, meaning the bar has been set high for season 3. The latest images raise more questions than they answer, but the Showtime series will evidently not be toning things down moving forward.
Yellowjackets season 3 premieres with two episodes on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, February 14, before airing on Showtime on Sunday, February 16, at 9/8c.
