You Season 5 Release Date Confirmed

The release date has been confirmed for Youseason 5. The Netflix psychological thriller series that began in 2018 introduced audiences to Joe Goldberg, a stalker who goes to great lengths to insert himself into the lives of those who fascinate him. You features a leading cast including Penn Badgley, Victoria Pedretti, Tati Gabrielle, Charlotte Ritchie, Elizabeth Lail, and Ambyr Childers. The show has had four completed seasons so far, with the most recent season coming out in winter 2023.

Now, Netflix has announced the release date for You season 5. The thriller's final season will come out on April 24. The release date was announced in the You season 5 trailer, which is narrated by Joe, who says "here we are, together again, back to where we began." The end of the dramatic trailer revealed the April 24 release date.

What This Means For You

You Season 5 Will Have A Different Release Approach From Season 4

Over the course of its seven-year run, You has experiences some fairly significant gaps. This is fairly commonplace on Netflix and other platforms nowadays, with major series like Strangers Things, Squid Game, and House of the Dragon featuring hiatuses of up to two years. Part of You's run was affected by COVID, which happened between seasons 2 and 3 of the series. Still, audiences had to wait over one year between seasons 3 and 4, and will have had to wait just over two years between You season 4's ending and the series conclusion in season 5.

The You release date announcement also reveals that You season 5 will have a different approach thanseason 4. Like Netflix does with popular shows such as Brigderton and Stranger Things, You season 4 had a two-part release, releasing half of its episodes on February 9, 2023 and the other half on March 9. While Netflix could be waiting to announce a part 1 and part 2 separate release, they typically announce such separations when release dates are announced. Thus, You season 5 is most likely to be released in one chunk.

Our Take On The You Season 5 Release Date

This Strategy Could Hurt You's Numbers

If Bridgerton season 3 is any indication, Netflix's multi-part release strategy typically works for their biggest shows. This makes me think that Netflix might be using this release strategy more sparingly in 2025, likely saving it for shows like Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, or perhaps Wednesday season 2. This could potentially hurt You's viewership numbers, as it may not be able to sustain high levels of views over a longer period of time. How You's release strategy impacts its views remains to be seen as Youwaits just over three months for its season 5 release.
