"Your Next Great Adventure Awaits!": D&D's Upcoming New Game Gets First Trailer & Reveals Gameplay Details
Resolution Games has announced new details about its upcoming Dungeons & Dragons game, releasing on VR devices and traditional consoles. Back in 2021, Resolution Games launched Demeo, a cross-platform VR game that combined tabletop RPG play with card mechanics. Resolution Games eventually expanded Demeo to include non-VR consoles as well. In 2024, Resolution Games announced it was partnering with Wizards of the Coast to make a D&D-themed VR game. Today, more details about the new game were revealed.
Resolution Games has revealed that its collaboration with Dungeons & Dragons will be called Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons Battlemarked. As the name of the game suggests, Battlemarked will utilize Demeo's game system, with players spending two action points per round to play cards that control their character on a virtual tabletop grid system.
As the official trailer description notes:
"Your next great adventure awaits! Introducing Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked. Created with Resolution Game’s award-winning Demeo Action Roleplaying System, Battlemarked arms you with tactical might and magic to deploy alongside friends as you work co-operatively to vanquish the forces of evil."
What Is Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked?
According to a press release formally announcing the game, Battlemarked uses the Demeo system instead of adapting D&D rules to the virtual tabletop. However, the game will feature many of the classes, actions and lore of Dungeons & Dragons,as well as storylines set in two different D&D settings. Initially, the game will include two story-based campaigns, with additional campaigns planned as downloadable content in the future. Battlemarked will be available on a variety of platforms, including PC, console, and XR options.
Unlike traditional tabletop roleplaying games, Battlemarked will use a DM-less system that focuses on social strategy to figure out moves. Gameplay largely focuses on figuring out the right strategy to use to get through combat, with each player having different combat options to choose from. Assumably, Battlemarked will use actual D&D classes, with a Rogue, a Wizard, a Bard, and a Fighter visible in the first trailer. Additionally, the game will offer cross-platform support, meaning that players don't need to find three other people with VR systems (or non-VR systems) to play the new game with.
Our Take: Battlemarked Could Be An Intriguing D&D Game
Adding Dungeons & Dragons To A Game Inspired By D&D Makes A Lot Of Sense
While I'm not the biggest fan of most VR games, I'll admit that I've enjoyed Demeo both in VR and non-VR form. I'm very curious to see what Resolution Games does with the Dungeons & Dragons license, given that Demeo proudly wore its D&D influences on its sleeves. It appears that the game will bring over D&D elements like a 20-sided dice, which could also spice up the traditional Demeo gameplay. This is one Dungeons & Dragons game I'll be keeping an eye on.
