Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 8 and Mr. Robot season 1.Christian Slater plays Harry Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin, and it's a perfect reason to watch his very similar role in an acclaimed drama show with 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. After Dexter: Original Sin episode 8, the show is quickly coming to the climax of Harry Morgan's story. His relationship with Laura Moser (Brittany Allen) is about to end in tragedy, he just found out Brian Moser is the NHI Killer, and Harry Morgan is still going to die in Original Sin. As Harry's story reaches the tipping point, fans of Original Sin may want more of Christian Slater's tremendous performance.
Luckily, Slater already played a character who's essentially a darker version of Harry Morgan nine years ago. He played Mr. Robot in Mr. Robot, which actually turned out to be one of Christian Slater's best TV shows ever. Mr. Robot even earned an unusually high score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is currently nearly 30% higher than Original Sin's score. Plus, Mr. Robot's similarities to Harry Morgan make it the perfect show to watch while waiting for the next episode of Dexter: Original Sin.
Christian Slater’s Character In Mr. Robot Is Very Similar To Harry Morgan In Dexter: Original Sin
Slater's Mr. Robot Manipulates Rami Malek's Elliot Into Committing Crimes For The Greater Good
Christian Slater plays the titular character in Mr. Robot alongside Rami Malek, and Mr. Robot is extremely similar to Harry Morgan. Throughout the original Dexter, Harry Morgan would appear to Dexter in visions to offer guidance and basically serve as his conscience. Mr. Robot essentially fills the same role for Elliot (Malek) as Harry did for Dexter. He offers Elliot guidance on how to take down the oppressive E Corp and how to commit cyber crimes. Mr. Robot even revealed that Slater's character was a manifestation of Elliot's deceased father, just as Harry was in Dexter.
Mr. Robot is currently only available to rent or buy from providers like Amazon, Apple, and Fandango at Home.
Harry and Mr. Robot even have similar motivations. Harry developed Dexter into a serial killer both to protect his son and to catch the criminals who slipped through the cracks of the legal system. Mr. Robot, on the other hand, was trying to get Elliot to overthrow an evil global mega-corporation. Mr. Robot and Harry both had a strong sense of justice, a protective love for their sons, and a morally gray background behind them: it's almost like Christian Slater is playing the same character again in Original Sin. Anyone who likes Slater's take on Harry will almost certainly love his take on Mr. Robot.
Mr. Robot Puts A Darker Spin On Dexter’s Harry Morgan
Mr. Robot Acts As Elliot's Worst Instincts, While Harry Morgan Tries To Keep Dexter Good
The biggest difference between Christian Slater's characters in Mr. Robot and Dexter: Original Sin is in how they influence their respective sons. Harry Morgan always tried to keep Dexter from being a monster, and he developed the Code of Harry to make sure Dexter only killed people who deserved to die. Mr. Robot, on the other hand, basically acted as the manifestation of Elliot's darkest urges, and he tried to get him to commit all kinds of crimes with all manner of collateral damage in the quest to overthrow E Corp. Harry was a manifestation of Dexter's better angels, but Mr. Robot was a manifestation of Elliot's worst demons.
The difference between Mr. Robot and Harry also serves as yet another reason Mr. Robot is worth watching after Original Sin. Mr. Robot essentially works as an alternate take on Dexter, one where Harry tried to get Dexter to fully embrace his "dark passenger" instead of trying to suppress it. Anybody who likes diving into Dexter's psyche and trying to figure out what makes him tick will love how far Mr. Robot goes to examine Elliot's relationship with his father and his origins as a cyber criminal. Mr. Robot is essentially perfect for fans of both Dexter: Original Sin and Christian Slater.
