Dragon Ball Daima Officially Debuts A New Eternal Dragon

Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, episode #18Dragon Ball Daima has finally introduced its own Eternal Dragon for the Demon Realm, and he's proving to be quite the surprise. The new dragon is extremely powerful, and won't let anything get in his way of granting a wish.

With the introduction of a new set of Dragon Balls in Daima, it was only a matter of time before they would be used, and a new Eternal Dragon would be summoned. Unlike most Eternal Dragons seen in the series, which tend to be variations upon Shenron, the Demon Realm Dragon Balls summoned a version of Porunga, the Eternal Dragon associated with the Dragon Balls on Namek. This version of Porunga was red in color, and featured glowing yellow eyes as opposed to Porunga's red eyes.

The New Dragon Has Ties to a Classic Design

The New Porunga Draws from Dragon Ball GT

Due to his red coloration and yellow eyes, the new Porunga is quite reminiscent of Ultimate Shenron, the Eternal Dragon of the Black Star Dragon Balls, seen in Dragon Ball GT. Ultimate Shenron was absurdly powerful, able to grant wishes far beyond the capability of the other Eternal Dragons, such as wishes to kill a particular person. The downside of Ultimate Shenron is, of course, that using the Black Star Dragon Balls causes them to be scattered across space, and a one-year countdown to the destruction of the planet the wish was made on begins.

While Porunga likely won't have the destructive side effects of Ultimate Shenron, the similarities between the two dragons are hard to deny. Could this be an "Ultimate" version of the Porunga summoned by the Namekian Dragon Balls? Ultimate Shenron was created before the Dragon Balls of Earth and their Shenron, and so too were the Demon Realm Dragon Balls created before those on Namek. It may be little more than a throwback to GT, as much of this particular episode was (with its reintroduction of Super Saiyan 4), but the resemblance is interesting nonetheless.

Dragon Ball Daima's New Dragon Shows Off His Power

This Porunga Is Plenty Powerful On His Own

The red Porunga of the Demon Realm has already proven to be quite a bit stronger than the average eternal dragon. While King Piccolo was able to kill Shenron to prevent it from granting a wish, when Gomah attempted the same thing here, Porunga merely swatted him away with a finger, showing that the amount of power he wields is truly incredible. Porunga has not indicated any limitations on his wishes yet, either, so the limits of his power are truly unknown.

It's always exciting when a new Eternal Dragon is introduced in Dragon Ball, and this Porunga is no exception. With Glorio in the midst of making his wish as the episode ended, Porunga may not hang around very long in the next episode, but the brief glimpse fans have been given has been more than enough to showcase how impressive Dragon Ball Daima's take on the Eternal Dragon is.
