California’s drought, and its resulting lack of snow this year, has dramatically changed the winter recreation scene from the high country to the desert. A number of cross-country ski trails around Lake Tahoe are closed for lack of snow, snow conditions are “abominable” for alpine skiers and snowboarders, and dry weather means few desert wildflowers are blooming.
