Every Pack Included In The Sims 2: Legacy Collection

The Sims 2: Legacy Collection brings back the second game to digital store fronts. This includes availability on the EA App, Steam, and Epic Games Store. With the package includes the base game, eight expansions, nine stuff packs, and a kit for The Sims 4. All of this is priced at $29.99, but can be further reduced by also picking up The Sims 1: Legacy Collection at the same time as The Sims: 25th Birthday Bundle.

The Sims 2 is an outlier of the series, with features that never returned in other installments. It is the most dramatic The Sims title, with enemies, romance, and drama in all parts of the lore and gameplay. This has decisively made the game either the most loved or hated, depending on a player’s preferences. TS2 is jarringly different from TS3 and TS4, which will either be a breath of fresh air or absolutely frustrating.

Everything Included In The Sims 2: Legacy Collection

A Little Less Than The Full Experience

The Sims 2: Legacy Collection is a full re-release of the PC version of The Sims 2 for modern machines. This includes compatibility for Windows 10 and 11, along with improved resolutions. It does not feature any exclusive content from the console version on PlayStation 2 or Gamecube, which means some popular events, townies, and neighborhoods are absent. Below is the list of everything within the collection:

  • The Sims 2
  • The Sims 2: University
  • The Sims 2: Nightlife
  • The Sims 2: Open for Business
  • The Sims 2: Pets
  • The Sims 2: Bon Voyage
  • The Sims 2: Seasons
  • The Sims 2: FreeTime
  • The Sims 2: Apartment Life
  • The Sims 2: Holiday Party Pack
  • The Sims 2: Family Fun Stuff
  • The Sims 2: Glamour Life Stuff
  • The Sims 2: Happy Holiday Stuff
  • The Sims 2: Celebration! Stuff
  • The Sims 2: H&M Fashion Stuff
  • The Sims 2: Teen Style Stuff
  • The Sims 2: Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff
  • The Sims 2: Mansion & Garden Stuff
  • The Sims 4: Grunge Revival Kit

Unfortunately, The Sims 2: IKEA Home Stuff is omitted from the collection. This is likely due to the licensing contract having long expired and EA and IKEA failing to either seek or agree upon a new one. It is doubtful EA will grant this free to owners of The Sims 2: Legacy Collection in the future.

Is The Sims 2: Legacy Collection Worth The Cost?

The Sims 2 Is Entirely Different From The Other Games

Even at $29.99, The Sims 2: Legacy Collection can be a bit steep for an 21-year-old title. The best option is to go all in with The Sims: 25th Birthday Bundle, which adds The Sims 1: Legacy Collection and a second TS4 kit for $39.99 total. That’s $10 in savings for the two nearly cutting The Sims 1 to half price.

Another aspect to consider is whether the two games are just too jarringly different. The Sims 1 is notoriously difficult, with Sims dying quickly. The Sims 2’s main quirk is that time does not pass for unplayed households. This results in NPCs, friends, and loved ones being immortal while your own Sim ages away. This has led many players to use rotational play, where they make sure to change every household on a routine schedule often with a spreadsheet to make time consistent.

The two collections also seem to only have the minimum upgrades to function on modern PCs. Reports from players like Reddit user Common-Internet6978 and Steam forums claim that a decade-old visual bug that makes TS2 completely pink is still present. Owners of the original might just be re-buying the same product without much improvement.

Players that never owned either The Sims 1 or The Sims 2 should highly consider purchasing The Sims: 25th Birthday Bundle. There is lots of great lore for the whole franchise and gameplay is full of surprises, including burglars that can steal any possession. The Sims 2: Legacy Collectionby itself is more questionable, especially due to a missing stuff pack and issues not being fixed. Waiting for a good sale may be the best option.
