Everything We Know About The Next Avatar, An Earthbender
Details have been provided about the future of the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise, including intriguing elements of the next Avatar, an Earthbender. It has been common knowledge for a while that several upcoming The Last Airbender movies and shows have been in development by the creators of the original Nickelodeon series. One such project is a movie set after the original show, titled Aang: The Last Airbender, but the franchise has been promised to expand even further beyond the story of Aang and his friends.
The Avatar cycle in The Last Airbender has long allowed for several intriguing characters to be explored. From Aang himself to his successor Korra and their predecessors like Roku, Kyoshi, and even the first Avatar, Wan, the cycle has long been linked to Avatar: The Last Airbender's Four Nations concept. Future stories have been expected to go even beyond The Legend of Korra, with as much being confirmed via the announcement of Avatar: Seven Havens. In this story from Avatar Studios, a new Avatar will be explored, with several exciting elements of the character being revealed.
The Next Avatar After Korra Is An Earthbender
The Cycle Continues
As expected, the Avatar that will be the focus of Avatar: Seven Havens is an Earthbender. The reason for this was explored in the original series thanks to the Avatar Cycle, which always follows the pattern of Fire, Air, Water, and then Earth before repeating. Given that Korra, the Avatar featured in The Legend of Korra, was a Waterbender, it fits the lore of the series that the lead character in Avatar: Seven Havens will be born in the Earth Kingdom as an Earthbender.
Avatar: Seven Havens Will Feature A Twin Avatar
A First For The Series
Perhaps the most intriguing element of Avatar: Seven Havens is the confirmation that the titular figure will be a twin. The official synopsis for the show indicates that a young Earthbender discovers she is the new Avatar after Korra in a dangerous world, and must team up with her long-lost twin to uncover their origins and save the Seven Havens. While it may have happened in the past, this is the first time a twin Avatar has been confirmed in the series, begging intriguing questions about whether both have the powers of Korra and Aang or if just one does.
A pair of Earth Kingdom twins appeared in the original show; one was a bender, yet the other was not...
Twins have been part of The Last Airbender before, only not as the Avatar. For example, a pair of Earth Kingdom twins appeared in the original show; one was a bender, yet the other was not. Twin Waterbenders were also shown in The Legend of Korra, as were twin Earthbenders as part of the Beifong family. Delving into this concept only with the wrinkle of the Avatar Spirit involved is endlessly exciting.
The Avatar In Seven Havens Is A Female (But Is Her Twin?)
Carrying On The Legacy Of Korra
Another element revealed about the Avatar in Seven Havens is that she is a female. The synopsis confirms her as a young Earthbender, following in the footsteps of Korra. Interestingly, the last Earthbending Avatar was Kyoshi, who was also a female. Female Avatars are not uncommon, with the last Airbender in the cycle before Aang also being a woman named Yangchen. Evidently, Avatar: Seven Havens is continuing this trend, though it would be interesting if the main character's confirmed twin was a male, thus essentially combining the main characters of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
